{"id":2262,"date":"2018-01-12T10:32:11","date_gmt":"2018-01-12T15:32:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=2262"},"modified":"2018-01-12T10:32:11","modified_gmt":"2018-01-12T15:32:11","slug":"week-of-january-8-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2018\/01\/12\/week-of-january-8-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of January 8, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back and HAPPY NEW YEAR!\u00a0 Can you believe that we are half way through the year?\u00a0 It&#8217;s always so amazing to me how quickly the year goes and how much they grow every month.\u00a0 I missed them so much&#8230;glad to see them and hear all of their news!<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday they took the READING portion of the NWEA test.\u00a0 This is the same test that was given in September and will be given again in the Spring.\u00a0 I am thrilled to report that ALL OF MY STUDENTS went up in reading!\u00a0 I am so proud of them.\u00a0 Thanks for your help on the home front.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a team effort, isn&#8217;t it?\u00a0 Next week we will take the Math portion of NWEA.<\/p>\n<p>This week I have met with each reading group.\u00a0 Next week, due to NO SCHOOL ON MONDAY and district assessments, I will not be meeting with the groups.\u00a0 Reading Groups (Book Bags will resume the week of January 22.\u00a0 \u00a0However, please continue reading the books at home with your child.<\/p>\n<p>Next week:<\/p>\n<p>READING-We will continue our unit about FOOD.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll read a story from our Anthology book about a Grandfather Bear who is Hungry.<\/p>\n<p>LETTERS\/SOUNDS\u00a0 long\u00a0<strong>i\u00a0<\/strong>and long<strong> o<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 This week we worked with long\u00a0<strong>a\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>e<\/strong>.\u00a0 There were work papers that went home this week with words on them, indicating words with long\u00a0<strong>a\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>e.\u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WORDS-<strong>look<\/strong>\u00a0 \u00a0<strong>make<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We also have been working with different ways to connect texts (books) to things.<\/p>\n<p>ie\u00a0\u00a0<strong>Text to Text<\/strong> -When reading a new story, does it remind us of another book we have read?<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0Text to Self<\/strong>-When reading a new book, does it remind us of something about ourself, an experience that we&#8217;ve had, something we&#8217;d like, a trip, vacation, new sibbling, etc?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Text to World<\/strong>-When reading a new book, does it remind us of something we&#8217;ve talked about in class, in our community, on TV, etc<\/p>\n<p>Have a casual discussion with your child as you read together or at the dinner table, riding in the car, just time together.<\/p>\n<p>MATH-Assessments and Partner story problems.\u00a0 Students should be able to add and subtract fluently from 0-10.\u00a0 Practice at home.\u00a0 Doesn&#8217;t have to be written down, mentally is fine.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that WEDNESDAY is LATE START.<\/p>\n<p>Have a glorious weekend.\u00a0 Enjoy the beautiful weather.\u00a0 Appreciate life and each other.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Welcome back and HAPPY NEW YEAR!\u00a0 Can you believe that we are half way through the year?\u00a0 It&#8217;s always so amazing to me how quickly the year goes and how much they grow every month.\u00a0 I missed them so much&#8230;glad to see them and hear all of their news!
