{"id":217,"date":"2014-01-26T19:47:01","date_gmt":"2014-01-27T00:47:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=217"},"modified":"2014-01-26T19:50:17","modified_gmt":"2014-01-27T00:50:17","slug":"week-of-january-27-2014","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2014\/01\/26\/week-of-january-27-2014\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of January 27, 2014"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I hope you enjoyed last Friday and managed to stay warm! \u00a0Teachers were participating in Professional Development. \u00a0Howard teachers worked with Literacy and Math. \u00a0We were busy and productive!<\/p>\n<p>This week is &#8230;SPIRIT WEEK!!<\/p>\n<p>To celebrate Howard School Spirit, our Student Council has planned some fun activities. \u00a0Here we go&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Monday-MOVIE\/POPCORN DAY \u00a0Student Council will provide the popcorn for us to enjoy while we watch a movie. \u00a0Thanks Student Council!<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday-HIPPIE DAY \u00a0You can come to school dressed like a hippie!<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday-CLASS COLOR DAY-We will choose a color and let you know our choice. \u00a0Wear a shirt, jersey, sweatshirt in that color.<\/p>\n<p>Thursday-SPORTS DAY-Wear a hat, jersey, sweatshirt of a favorite sports team<\/p>\n<p>Friday-PAJAMA\/CRAZY HAIR DAY and BIRTHDAY PARTY -Wear your pjs, \u00a0fix your hair in a crazy way, and we&#8217;ll celebrate everyone&#8217;s birthday.<\/p>\n<p>A fun, exciting, and Howard \u00a0School Spirit-filled week!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here are some other things we&#8217;ll be doing this week. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>READING-Keep on reading every night at home. \u00a0I can always tell those who read (or are read to) every night. \u00a0Make reading a daily priority. \u00a0Discuss the stories with your child. \u00a0Ask questions. \u00a0This week we will be working with identifying\u00a0<strong>main ideas and details<\/strong> in stories. \u00a0Fluency in their reading is improving. \u00a0So is their Accuracy with words. \u00a0On Friday we will compare 3 texts that I will read to them this week. \u00a0I will ask them about the\u00a0<strong>main idea<\/strong> of each book and some<strong> \u00a0details<\/strong>. \u00a0You can do the same with books that you read with them. \u00a0Have them read with expression too!<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-We will be writing\u00a0<strong>dialogue.<\/strong>\u00a0 WOW!<\/p>\n<p>SPELLING-Dearborn Schools is implementing a new Spelling Curriculum. \u00a0Kindergarten starts with second semester (1\/27\/14). \u00a0This week we will focus on the &#8220;at&#8221; chunk. \u00a0Our word for our Treasures Reading Curriculum is &#8220;<b>\u00a0Are \u00a0are.&#8221;<\/b> \u00a0Letter is &#8220;<strong>H \u00a0h.&#8221;<\/strong> \u00a0Since my class has been writing since the first day of school, \u00a0I expect them to do very well with the Spelling Curriculum. I will also be adding some words from a Dolch Sight Word List. \u00a0 Keep up with the weekly reading unit words too, though.<\/p>\n<p>MATH-We will continue with Subtraction Story Problems, since, with days missed with snow days, \u00a0we haven&#8217;t really worked enough with them. \u00a0We also will play an Attributes game.<\/p>\n<p>SCIENCE-We will work with cars rolling down on a ramp and then measuring distances. \u00a0How will we measure? \u00a0Stay tuned!<\/p>\n<p>Have a great week and STAY WARM!!<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I hope you enjoyed last Friday and managed to stay warm! \u00a0Teachers were participating in Professional Development. \u00a0Howard teachers worked with Literacy and Math. \u00a0We were busy and productive!
