{"id":2007,"date":"2017-06-23T12:31:59","date_gmt":"2017-06-23T16:31:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=2007"},"modified":"2017-06-23T12:31:59","modified_gmt":"2017-06-23T16:31:59","slug":"friday-june-23-2017","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2017\/06\/23\/friday-june-23-2017\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday, June 23, 2017"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it&#8217;s been one week since we shared our &#8220;Have a good summer&#8221; blessings with each other and I&#8217;ve thought of my kids every day since then! \u00a0I hope you are enjoying relaxed schedules, pool time, popsicles, staying up a little later, and tons of laughs.<\/p>\n<p>Please encourage your child to read and write something every day. There are many pages left in their Math\/Science Journal. \u00a0Have them use that as a summer Journal or get a new one and title it &#8220;_________&#8217;s Summer 2017.&#8221; \u00a0Have them write 2-3 sentences EVERY DAY in the Journal. \u00a0Something they did that day or are going to do tomorrow <strong>(Narrative).<\/strong> Have them describe how to get to a place (<strong>sequencing). \u00a0<\/strong>Have them write about their favorite part of the zoo, Greenfield Village, Ann Arbor Hands On Museum, last night&#8217;s picnic at Grandma&#8217;s house (<strong>Opinion).<\/strong> \u00a0Of course, with\u00a0<strong>Opinion Writing,<\/strong> the most important part is the &#8220;<strong>WHY&#8221;&#8230;<\/strong>&#8220;Why did you like that?&#8221; Justifying their thoughts, supporting their reasoning. \u00a0Not necessarily right or wrong, just can they support their thoughts\/choice. \u00a0That&#8217;s a part of our Social Studies Curriculum&#8211;taking a stand on an issue and showing support, reason. \u00a0Higher level thinking!<\/p>\n<p>After your child has written an entry in their &#8220;Summer Journal,&#8221; have them go back and reread their writing AND, before entering the next day&#8217;s entry, have them read the previous day&#8217;s writing. \u00a0Very important and helpful. \u00a0 As is stated in the &#8220;UNITY&#8221; poem that I sent the last week of school, behind every child stands both the school and home. \u00a0What an awesome team!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>On a personal note&#8230;thank you for your kind words in the cards and notes that you sent to me. \u00a0I treasure them. \u00a0You have no idea how much they mean to me&#8230;timing is everything! \u00a0Thank you also for the flowers and gifts. \u00a0They are all around my house, gentle reminders of my kids. \u00a0Someone gave me a beautiful silver bracelet with a cross and an &#8220;S&#8221; on it but there was no card attached&#8230;who do I thank for this?<\/p>\n<p>Enjoy your summer! \u00a0Your child is welcome to write to me at my school email address:<\/p>\n<p>smiths@dearbornschools.org<\/p>\n<p>I will try to keep on top of checking my emails so I can respond to them.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you for every thing! \u00a0I mean it! \u00a0I miss my kids but I know they are in good hands. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>Love,<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Always remember&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;<em>Don&#8217;t become preoccupied with your child&#8217;s academic ability,<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>but instead teach them to sit with those sitting alone.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Teach them to be kind.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Teach them to offer help.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Teach them to be a friend to the lonely.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Teach them to encourage others.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Teach them to think about other people.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Teach them to share.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Teach them to always look for the good.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>This is how they will change the world.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Well, it&#8217;s been one week since we shared our &#8220;Have a good summer&#8221; blessings with each other and I&#8217;ve thought of my kids every day since then! \u00a0I hope you are enjoying relaxed schedules, pool time, popsicles, staying up a little later, and tons of laughs.
