READING-Week 3 of Unit 9\u00a0Animals Then and Now.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n COMPREHENSION STRATEGY-Asking Questions<\/p>\n COMPREHENSION SKILL-Distinguishing between Fantasy and Reality<\/p>\n WRITING-Informational \u00a0 What we know and learn about\u00a0Dinosaurs.<\/strong><\/p>\n SPELLING-\u00a0“ad” family \u00a0 \u00a0 bad \u00a0dad \u00a0glad \u00a0had \u00a0mad \u00a0sad \u00a0lad \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0so \u00a0 \u00a0some<\/strong>=9 words<\/p>\n MATH-I will really be focusing on Number Stories\u00a0<\/span> \u00a0You may remember them as “story problems.” \u00a0I also will be working with different tools to use to help move numbers in our heads…a number line (in front of room) 100 chart (in their book box), tape measures (in MATH CENTER) , rulers, yard sticks, etc. \u00a0 I often will give them a math moment, where I toss out a story problem. \u00a0While I am interested in the correct answer, I am also interested in their mental strategies. \u00a0For example, today I asked them, “How much is 10 + 15<\/strong>” ? \u00a0I purposely put the numbers in that order. \u00a0Two students answered correctly with\u00a0“25.” \u00a0<\/strong>When i asked each one how they got their answer, one \u00a0started with 15 and added 10 to it. \u00a0The other student took 5 from the 15, leaving 10 + 10 =(20) and then added 5 to 20 and got 25. \u00a0Fantastic strategies and great number awareness!<\/p>\n SCIENCE\/SOCIAL STUDIES-Dinosaurs!!<\/strong><\/p>\n We have had 2 fantastic days “cleaning up our Earth.” \u00a0I sorry I don’t have any pictures of my Scientists in Action…my phone is full. \u00a0They were just so much to watch participating in cleaning up our school yard!! \u00a0They were pretty disgusted with how much litter they found. \u00a0LOOK OUT…they will be watching you!!<\/p>\n Looking ahead…<\/p>\n Tuesday and Friday my class will be taking the NWEA test. \u00a0PLEASE make every effort to have your child here ON time and no early leaving!
