{"id":1762,"date":"2016-12-02T16:12:33","date_gmt":"2016-12-02T21:12:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=1762"},"modified":"2016-12-02T16:12:33","modified_gmt":"2016-12-02T21:12:33","slug":"week-of-december-5-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2016\/12\/02\/week-of-december-5-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of December 5, 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re picking up the pace with letters and words. \u00a0Keep on top of things by reviewing weekly letters and words and spelling the words.<\/p>\n<p>Here goes for next week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>READING-We are starting Unit 4 \u00a0<strong>FOOD<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>COMPREHENSION STRATEGY-<strong>SUMMARIZE<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>COMPREHENSION SKILL-<strong>IDENTIFY SEQUENCE OF EVENTS<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LETTERS \u00a0<strong>H h \u00a0V v<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WORDS \u00a0<strong>to eat \u00a0food<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MATH-Number Lines, \u00a0Number Awareness, Greater than, Less Than<\/p>\n<p>SOCIAL STUDIES-Finishing up GOODS\/SERVICES and going on to TRADES<\/p>\n<p>Catch a teachable moment when you are out&#8230;Is the cashier offering a GOODS or a SERVICE? \u00a0Hair Stylist? Toys in a store? A Waitress? Gas Station? \u00a0Police? \u00a0Dentist?<\/p>\n<p>I have to take a moment to brag about my students&#8230;This week we brainstormed 3 different &#8220;things&#8221; to go along with our unit on Transportation and I wanted to work in our sight words.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">List 1\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(Places to go)<\/p>\n<p>zoo, farm, church,Dairy Queen,school, Chicago, Paris, etc.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">List 2<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(How to get there)<\/p>\n<p>Bus, train, motorcycle, rocket, ambulance, hot air balloon, etc<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">List 3<\/span><\/p>\n<p>(Who will you see?)<\/p>\n<p>a teacher, friends, Mom, Dad, Grandma, Grandpa<\/p>\n<p>Choosing one item form each list, they were to write\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><em><strong>3\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/span> sentences (not 1, not 2, but 3 sentences).<\/p>\n<p>Example:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We can go to the farm. \u00a0We can go in a bus. \u00a0We can see friends.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>They did a great job and I posted their work in the hall. \u00a0This is a huge task for Kindergarteners. \u00a0The only 3 words that they haven&#8217;t had yet as weekly words were words on the list. \u00a0So, they had to find the word (retrieving information-a writing skill) and they had to use correct grammar. \u00a0(<strong>in\u00a0<\/strong>a bus,\u00a0<strong>on\u00a0<\/strong>a motorcycle)<\/p>\n<p>I an very proud of them and we are not even through first semester!! \u00a0Look out! \u00a0We might have their Master&#8217;s thesis topic chosen by May. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>A special &#8220;THANK YOU&#8221; to Mrs. Sherding, Evelyn&#8217;s mom for making sure ($$) each child got popcorn today. \u00a0Thank you.<\/p>\n<p>Have a wonderful weekend, still enjoying this gorgeous weather.<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>We&#8217;re picking up the pace with letters and words. \u00a0Keep on top of things by reviewing weekly letters and words and spelling the words.
