As of today, we have completed the first semester of Kindergarten. \u00a0Didn’t that go quickly?<\/p>\n

Here are a few things for next week…<\/p>\n

JANUARY BOOK-IT CALENDARS are due on Monday, 2\/1\/16. \u00a0Remember that Book Titles need to be recorded on the back of the calendar, not just the date colored in on the front.<\/p>\n

Second Semester will bring\u00a0WEEKLY SPELLING TESTS.<\/em> \u00a0I will post the words each week and the tests will be on Fridays. \u00a0Our first\u00a0Spelling Test\u00a0<\/em>will be\u00a0February 5, 2016. \u00a0<\/strong>Of course, we will begin with an easy start. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0To give the students a chance to practice the words, you can go to\u00a0SpellingCity.com<\/strong> and find my list.<\/p>\n

Since we will be working with the\u00a0“at”<\/strong> family, the words will be\u00a0 \u00a0mat \u00a0 \u00a0hat \u00a0 flat \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>the \u00a0you \u00a0for<\/strong><\/p>\n

I will choose some words from a word family (this week is the “at” family), one word will have a blend at the beginning (“flat”), and the remaining words will be sight words (words that they should know by heart).<\/p>\n

Today we worked with ten rods and ones’ cubes. \u00a0I told them to make different numbers with the rods and cubes. …\"math<\/a>\"math<\/a><\/p>\n

After working with the rods and cubes, I gave them this worksheet. \u00a0They seem to really understand the concept of place value when they used the manipulatives (rods and cubes), but had difficulty when it came to seeing things on paper. \u00a0Take a few minutes and explore this with your child.<\/p>\n

We also worked with the\u00a0penny<\/em> today. \u00a0Monday will be the\u00a0nickel.<\/em> \u00a0(That’s why I’ve been working with them on counting by 5″s…for counting nickels and for counting by 5 minutes on a clock.)<\/p>\n
