{"id":1049,"date":"2015-04-22T12:29:19","date_gmt":"2015-04-22T16:29:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=1049"},"modified":"2015-04-22T12:29:19","modified_gmt":"2015-04-22T16:29:19","slug":"week-of-april-20-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2015\/04\/22\/week-of-april-20-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of April 20, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I think we are still recovering in here from our zoo trip! \u00a0Lots of excitement and discussions in here. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0I know that Mondays are the lightest day for visitors at the zoo and April is less crowded than May\/June. \u00a0So I&#8217;m glad I was given a Monday in April for my bus date.<\/p>\n<p>READING-Unit 9\u00a0<strong>The Amazing Ocean<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WRITING-Descriptive Sentences<\/p>\n<p>Their focus question will be&#8230;&#8221;If you had a pet fish, what would you and your pet fish do?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday they will do their\u00a0<strong>Prewrite.<\/strong> \u00a0By now they should be writing a sentence using descriptive or interesting words. \u00a0For example, &#8220;My fish and I would ride on our jet skis&#8221; or &#8220;My fish and I would eat ice cream on a park bench&#8221; or &#8220;My fish and I would ride on a Merry-Go-Round.&#8221; \u00a0They should be writing more than just &#8220;&#8230;go to the park&#8221; \u00a0or &#8230;&#8221;play.&#8221; \u00a0Do what at the park? \u00a0or Play what? \u00a0Where?<\/p>\n<p>Thursday is\u00a0<strong>Revise and Edit Day\u00a0<\/strong>for their writing conference with me.<\/p>\n<p>Friday is\u00a0<strong>Publish\u00a0<\/strong>Day. \u00a0They will write their final piece and share with the class.<\/p>\n<p>SPELLING-&#8220;ig&#8221; chunk \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>big \u00a0wig \u00a0pig \u00a0wig \u00a0fish \u00a0has \u00a0look<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I reminded them that\u00a0<strong>big\u00a0<\/strong>and\u00a0<strong>dig<\/strong> start with different letters! \u00a0Make sure they write the correct letter.<\/p>\n<p>MATH-Unit 8 \u00a0We&#8217;ll work with\u00a0<strong>Number Families.<\/strong> \u00a0What are some different ways to make\u00a0<strong>9<\/strong>? \u00a0Get out some spoons and give it a try. \u00a02 + 7 \u00a0 6 + 3 \u00a0 0 + 9 \u00a0 \u00a07 + 2 \u00a0 What are some other ways to make\u00a0<strong>9?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SCIENCE-Fish Characteristics! \u00a0We&#8217;ll also talk about\u00a0<strong>Living and Non-Living Things.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This week the students will also have their third Writing Prompt for the year. \u00a0They already know that it will be about Plants. \u00a0Remember, it&#8217;s a writing assessment so their writing will be what is graded.<\/p>\n<p>Have a good week.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Mrs. Smith<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I think we are still recovering in here from our zoo trip! \u00a0Lots of excitement and discussions in here. \u00a0\ud83d\ude42 \u00a0I know that Mondays are the lightest day for visitors at the zoo and April is less crowded than May\/June. \u00a0So I&#8217;m glad I was given a Monday in April for my bus date.
