{"id":1013,"date":"2015-03-29T16:48:32","date_gmt":"2015-03-29T20:48:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/?p=1013"},"modified":"2015-03-29T16:48:32","modified_gmt":"2015-03-29T20:48:32","slug":"week-of-march-30-2015","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/2015\/03\/29\/week-of-march-30-2015\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of March 30, 2015"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Brrr..it&#8217;s good kite flying weather with the winds, but it&#8217;s also quite cold. \u00a0I read that The temperature prediction for Thursday is 70 degrees! \u00a0Wouldn&#8217;t that be lovely? \u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n<p>For those of you who went to Howard&#8217;s Roller Skating Event, I hope you enjoyed the evening. \u00a0If you didn&#8217;t attend and had other plans, I hope you enjoyed your family time too.<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s what we&#8217;ll be doing this week&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>READING-We&#8217;ll finish Unit 8 \u00a0\u00a0<strong>What&#8217;s In My Garden?<\/strong> I&#8217;ll read &#8220;<strong>Sunflower House.&#8221;<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>WRITING-Most of the students are writing 2-3 sentences on a single topic. \u00a0Several students are writing more than 3 sentences on a topic. \u00a0What great writers! They are focused on sounds and the corresponding letters to go with the sounds. Many are going beyond the individual sound to letter and are writing known words or are connecting to rhyming or spelling words. \u00a0Awesome!!<\/p>\n<p>They&#8217;ll write about what they might grow if they had a little garden. \u00a0They&#8217;ll also write about if they had a little sunflower house, what would they do in it? \u00a0Their writing response should be more detailed than just &#8220;I would play in it.&#8221; \u00a0Who would be in the house with them? \u00a0What would they play? Would they eat anything? \u00a0Where would their house be? \u00a0What would they have in the house? \u00a0a bed? \u00a0a lamp? \u00a0a teddy bear?<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday I will read a folk tale titled &#8220;<strong>The Rabbit and the Elephant.&#8221;<\/strong> Hmmm&#8230;I wonder what that tale will teach us?<\/p>\n<p>SPELLING-Review week and a new chunk\u00a0<strong>ub.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>said \u00a0little \u00a0was \u00a0here \u00a0sub \u00a0tub \u00a0cub \u00a0rub<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>MATH-Telling Time \u00a0 \u00a0We&#8217;ve already talked about the hour hand, the minute hand. where the hands need to be for o&#8217;clocks, and that there are 5 minutes between any two consecutive numbers on the clock. Last week, using my big clock, I walked through 24 hours with them. \u00a0This is 7:00-you are waking up. \u00a08:00-eating breakfast \u00a09:00-in school \u00a011:00-finishing our Writing\/Reading Groups 12:00-Recess \u00a03:00-finishing our afternoon \u00a04:00-home, having a snack and reviewing Spelling Words \u00a05:00-setting the table and helping to prepare dinner 6:00-clearing the table and helping to clean up 7:00-studying Spelling Words and playing \u00a0(7:30-get ready for bed) 8:00-IN BED \u00a0 9:00 PM-7:00 AM -sleeping and then the cycle begins again.
