The Seal encourages proficiency in multiple languages and recognizes the value of language and cultural diversity. At the elementary level, the Seal is a celebration at the end of the year where we affirm the value of multiculturalism\/bilingualism and involve parents in promoting bilingualism.<\/p>\n<div class=\"entry-content\">\n<p>Earning the Dearborn Seal of Biliteracy demonstrates significant attainment in two or more languages. Students who attain the Seal will be honored at the school senior honors convocation where they will receive a certificate with a cord to be worn a commencement. The seal will be affixed to the students\u2019 diplomas and will be noted on their official transcripts.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<header class=\"entry-header\"><\/header>\n<p>8th-grade students who are interested in completing the Seal of Biliteracy for 8th grade Honors Night, please see Dr. Elder or Mrs. Jedrzejowski this week. You must have a proficient score in the 8th grade ELA state test, be proficient in WIDA (if applicable), complete an essay in a foreign language you are fluent in, create a PowerPoint comparing and contrasting your targeted language&#8217;s cultural characteristics with the U.S., and summarize an interview presented in the foreign language.
