Every Monday the students will take a Spelling Pretest to see what words they already know how to spell and what the week’s rule is for the spelling words. \u00a0There will be 5 “hot” words that follow a particular pattern. \u00a0On Friday’s test, the students will also be asked how to spell 5 “cold” words that follow the same pattern. \u00a0The test will also include 5 academic words that we are learning in ELA, Math, Science, and\/or S.S. \u00a0These academic words will be introduced and taught throughout the week.<\/p>\n
Students will receive Spelling homework every Monday. \u00a0It is a tic-tac-toe spelling sheet which lists 9 different spelling activities that the students can complete at home. \u00a0Students must choose 3 of these activities, complete them at home, and return the sheet with all work attached every Friday. \u00a0Your child will be coming home with Spelling homework today.<\/p>\n
Spelling words (short a sound, long a sound): \u00a0lane, ate, trap, tape, can<\/p>\n
Academic words for spelling: \u00a0fiction, number, count, force, Michigan<\/p>\n
Students should be reading 15-20 minutes every night at home. \u00a0The more students practice reading, the better readers they will become!<\/p>\n
Third grade students will begin learning Science and Social Studies starting today. \u00a0All third graders will have myself for Social Studies, then they will go to Mrs. Grizzell’s class for Science. \u00a0This happens in the afternoon from 12:40-1:20 and 1:20-2:00 every Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday.<\/p>\n
**Reminder that Open House is this Thursday, September 17th from 5:30-7:00 p.m. \u00a0Come in and see your child’s classroom and meet the teacher.<\/p>\n
