{"id":2816,"date":"2018-12-17T07:38:47","date_gmt":"2018-12-17T12:38:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/shenew\/?p=2816"},"modified":"2018-12-17T07:38:47","modified_gmt":"2018-12-17T12:38:47","slug":"week-of-december-17-21","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/shenew\/2018\/12\/17\/week-of-december-17-21\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of December 17-21"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Spelling Words (\/in\/ and \/ain\/ patterns):\u00a0 muffin, bargain, certain, pumpkin, fountain, basin, again, captain, dolphin, curtain<\/p>\n<p>Content Words:\u00a0 push factor, pull factor, migration, immigration, movement<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to the families that have signed up to bring in treats\/supplies for this Friday&#8217;s Holiday Party.<\/p>\n<p>Remember that the Classroom Holiday Gift Exchange is this Friday, December 21st.\u00a0 If your child would like to participate they should bring in a new wrapped gift no more than $5.00.\u00a0 If your child is a boy, then they write &#8220;To Boy, From (Student&#8217;s Name)&#8221; on the wrapped gift.\u00a0 If your child is a girl, then they write &#8220;To Girl, From (Student&#8217;s Name&#8221; on the gift.\u00a0 This is optional, but if your child does not bring in a gift, he\/she will not receive a gift in exchange.<\/p>\n<p>This week is Snow Holiday Spirit Week:<\/p>\n<p>Monday &#8211; &#8220;Baby it&#8217;s cold outside&#8221;- wear a winter hat and scarf<\/p>\n<p>Tuesday-&#8220;Snow Day&#8221;- wear Snow school apparel<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday-&#8220;White Out&#8221;- wear white like the winter snow and ice<\/p>\n<p>Thursday-&#8220;Snowed In&#8221;- wear your pajamas and slippers (follow dress code- no shorts or spaghetti strapped tank tops)<\/p>\n<p>Friday-&#8220;Holiday Sweater Day&#8221;- wear a festive or ugly sweater<\/p>\n<p>Students have completed their second iReady Diagnostic Test for reading in class last week.\u00a0 Students should have shown growth since the original test given the end of September.\u00a0 A report of your child&#8217;s progress will be coming home today.\u00a0 Please go over the report with your child to see where they scored on this test.\u00a0 Sign and return the paper to school by Friday.\u00a0 I will send another copy home for you to keep once you&#8217;ve returned the signed copy.<\/p>\n<p>I will not be giving specific homework over the holiday break.\u00a0 However, it is important that you continue to have your child read at home over the break.\u00a0 Students do NOT need to fill in their Reading Logs over the break, but they should be reading 20-30 minutes daily.\u00a0 Also, please continue to review basic multiplication facts at home with your child over the break.\u00a0 A great stocking stuffer is multiplication flashcards.\u00a0 Students were expected to have memorized their multiplication facts by the end of third grade.\u00a0 We are currently in Module 3 in our Eureka Math program which is multi-digit multiplication and eventually division.\u00a0 If your child is struggling with their basic facts, they will have difficulty with the rest of this Module.\u00a0 You can go onto MobyMax and go to Fact Fluency for students to be timed in the memorization.\u00a0 I also suggest the website\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.arcademics.com\/\">https:\/\/www.arcademics.com\/<\/a>\u00a0which has fun games to review students&#8217; speed and accuracy with multiplication and division.<\/p>\n<p>Reminder that tomorrow, Tuesday, December 22nd is a Parent Meeting for 4th graders about Eureka Math.\u00a0 If you would like to hear information and tips that you can use to help your child in math this year, please sign in at the office then head to the cafeteria by 3:00 p.m. tomorrow.\u00a0 The meeting will last approximately 20 minutes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Spelling Words (\/in\/ and \/ain\/ patterns):\u00a0 muffin, bargain, certain, pumpkin, fountain, basin, again, captain, dolphin, curtain Content Words:\u00a0 push factor, pull factor, migration, immigration, movement Thank you to the families that have signed up to bring in treats\/supplies for this Friday&#8217;s Holiday Party.
