It has been a great first week back.\u00a0 I was happy to see that most of the children read over the break and came back ready for new books.\u00a0 We have been spending a lot of time on informational reading and text features.\u00a0 I hope the students are pointing out bold print, picture captions and diagrams.\u00a0 The Scholastic News magazines I send home use many of these features.\u00a0 Please don’t just throw them out.\u00a0 Ask your child what they learned.\u00a0 Ask them to point out the important text features.\u00a0 Most will be very excited to show you.<\/p>\n
In science we are learning about animal traits and why they are important.\u00a0 Just before break we experimented with different types of bird beaks and why the different types were important because of the food they eat or their environment.<\/p>\n
In social studies we are working on life in the past and how it is different from life now.\u00a0 We will explore transportation, communication and other ways of life.\u00a0 The unit will conclude with a trip to Greenfield Village in June.\u00a0 Details will come home closer to the date.<\/p>\n
