I am looking forward to getting to know you and your child!

I have been a Special Education teacher for many years. I graduated from Michigan State University in Deaf Education and have a Masters in Early Childhood Education. I am fortunate to have had the experience in working with children who have concerns communicating and will emphasize this goal every day in our class.

BEFORE THE FIRST DAY:

Help your child be prepared for school! Show pictures of school busses to your child. Show pictures of me. Read books about going to school. Build excitement- even if you are crazy nervous yourself! 🙂

FIRST DAY:

For many of you, this may be the first time your child is attending school. I URGE you to put your child on the bus, not bring him/her in yourself. If you feel you have to, after you put him/her on the bus, you can meet your child at Long Elementary and walk him/her into class (please only do this once- not every day).

If your child is crying while getting on the bus, they still want/need structure. Give them a kiss and say, “Have a great day, I will see you after school” and then go. If you continue to give attention to the crying- it will get worse.
