Ask \u201cWhat sound does that letter make?\u201d Help them to make the sound\u2026look at the picture..stretch the sounds..put them together. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Think about the Meaning<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Encourage readers to THINK about what they are reading. Here are some things you can say to help them do just that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>What would make sense in the sentence?<\/li><li>You read ________. Does that make sense?<\/li><li>Look at the picture to help you read the word.<\/li><li>Think about what is happening in the story right now.<\/li><li>Go back to the beginning of that sentence and start it again.<\/li><li>Skip over the word and continue reading until the end of the sentence. Now, go back to the beginning of the sentence and start again.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Use Visual Clues from the Words<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li>Look at the first letter(s) of the word. Say the first sound(s).<\/li><li>If the word is ____________, what would you expect to see at the beginning\/middle\/end of the word?<\/li><li>Spell the word out loud. Look at each letter.<\/li><li>We\u2019ve seen that word before in this book. Let\u2019s find it on the other page.<\/li><li>Do you see a part of the word (word chunk) that you already know?<\/li><li>Let\u2019s cover up a part of the word and read the part we see. (For example, if the word is&nbsp;<em>jumping<\/em>, cover up the -ing)<\/li><li>Sound it out. (This only works if the child has the word knowledge and\/or strategies.)<\/li><li>Do you see a prefix in the word that you know? (longer words)<\/li><li>Do you see a suffix in the word that you know?
