My name is Ms. Shalhout and I am looking forward to having a successful year teaching your child. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Let me start by introducing myself. This will be my eighth year of teaching (time flies)! \u00a0I attended Wayne State University and completed my master\u2019s degree in Bilingual\/Bicultural Education. I also have two endorsements in math and science. I enjoy spending time with my six nieces and nephews, reading mystery novels, and shopping. We will have a lot of fun together while learning! \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The following contains information pertaining to our classroom procedures and policies. I hope you find it useful. There will be more information coming soon regarding upcoming parent meetings and Open House.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Instructional Focus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; The instructional focus this year will be driven by the Common Core and State Standards. Students will be actively participating in setting their own personal learning goals for the year. Classroom instruction will be focused through content and language objectives. Objectives will be shared before a lesson with a reflection component at the end of each lesson.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Student Expectations- <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is essential students arrive promptly at <\/span><b>8:30 every day. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Students are expected to be prepared for class with all their necessary materials. All students must put forth their best effort daily in order to meet all expectations.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Communication Folders<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> \u2013 I will be providing your child with a blue communication folder. \u00a0<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">It is the student\u2019s responsibility to bring this to class daily, since they will be turning in any work, and collecting any new notes in this folder<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. Here you will find any returned work, notes, and handouts. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Planners-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Planners<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">will be provided for students. This is where students write down any classroom reminders or assignments they must complete. Planners must be signed by a parent everyday and brought back to class daily. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Behavior-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">We use a color system for behavior. Each student will start on green, but will have an opportunity to move up to purple for outstanding behavior. Students can also move down when a rule is broken to the color yellow, orange, red, or blue. More of this will be discussed at the parent meeting. Students will circle the color of their behavior each day in the planners. <\/span><b>If a student is<\/b> <b>not on green,<\/b> <b>I will also initial the color <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">of their behavior for the day with a possible note explaining the behavior. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Supplies<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; I have attached a copy of the third grade supply list that your child will need. Any other donations will be greatly appreciated. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Absences<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> &#8211; It is necessary to call the office when your child will be absent. \u00a0The number is 313-827-2300. Please send a note or call ahead if your child will need to be dismissed early for appointments.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Recess-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This year, we will be taking two 15 minute recess breaks every day (morning and afternoon). Yes, <\/span><b>two recess breaks!<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> All Dearborn Public Schools will be implementing this initiative. These recess breaks do not include lunch recess. Please be sure your child is always dressed for the weather. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Snack<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Students may bring in a <\/span><b>healthy snack <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">if they choose. I only allow fruits, vegetables, string cheese, yogurt, or granola bars. Students <\/span><b>will not be allowed <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">to bring in or eat any unhealthy snack such as chips, muffins or cookies. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Water bottles<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Students are encouraged to bring in water bottles with a cap to cut down on needing to use the classroom water fountain. <\/span><b>Water is the only liquid allowed in the classroom. <\/b><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Birthdays- <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If you wish to celebrate your child\u2019s birthday in the classroom, please let me know at least one day in advance so I can plan accordingly. Only cupcakes or individual treat bags are allowed to help save time. No drinks or juice boxes please. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Blog<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Please follow my blog for an update of weekly spelling words, announcements, and important events happening in the class at <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/shalhol\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">iblog.dearbornschools.org\/shalhol\/<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Remind App-<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I have attached instructions on how to sign up for classroom updates on the Remind app. <\/span><b>\u00a0Please sign up for this so you are able to receive class announcements. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>Questions and Concerns<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your child.
