Please share this with other parents!<\/p>\n<p>\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014\u2014-<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy can\u2019t I skip my 30 minutes of reading tonight?\u201d<br \/>\nLet\u2019s figure it out \u2014MATHEMATICALLY!<\/p>\n<p>Student A reads 30 minutes a night;<br \/>\nStudent B reads only 5 minutes a night<\/p>\n<p>Step 1: Multiply minutes a night x 7 times each week.<br \/>\nStudent A reads 210 minutes a week.<br \/>\nStudent B reads 35 minutes a week.<\/p>\n<p>Step 2: Multiply minutes a week x 4 weeks each month.<br \/>\nStudent A reads 840 minutes a month.<br \/>\nStudent B reads 140 minutes a month.<\/p>\n<p>Step 3: Multiply minutes a month x 12 months a year.<br \/>\nStudent A reads 10,080 minutes a year.<br \/>\nStudent B reads 1,680 minutes a year.<\/p>\n<p>Student A practices reading the equivalent of 28 whole school days a year.<br \/>\nStudent B gets the equivalent of only 5 school days of reading practice.<\/p>\n<p>By the end of 6th grade if Student A and Student B maintain these same reading habits:<\/p>\n<p>Student A will have read the equivalent of 60 whole school days<br \/>\nStudent B will have read the equivalent of only 12 school days.<\/p>\n<p>One would expect the gap of information retained will have widened considerably, and so undoubtedly will school performance.
