{"id":1205,"date":"2019-01-28T09:00:52","date_gmt":"2019-01-28T14:00:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/shakarchi\/?p=1205"},"modified":"2019-01-29T10:50:43","modified_gmt":"2019-01-29T15:50:43","slug":"news-letter-1-28-2-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/shakarchi\/2019\/01\/28\/news-letter-1-28-2-1\/","title":{"rendered":"News Letter 1\/28-2\/1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Due to school closings, there will be no spelling or a homework packet this week.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Spelling Pattern: List #14 Irregular Past Tense<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Spelling Homework<\/strong>\u00a0:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Each week your child will add a spelling card to this collection.\u00a0 Students will study List A or List B for the week, depending on pretest results.\u00a0 All students will need to study the words in \u201cboth\u201d section.\u00a0 \u00a0 There will be 5 content words added as well\u00a0for a total of 20 words.<\/em><\/li>\n<li>Tic-Tac-Toe: Students will use the same board for the first nine weeks.\u00a0 They will choose three squares\u00a0 to complete and hand in on Friday.\u00a0 Have fun\u00a0\ud83d\ude42<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Spelling Test<\/strong>: Friday<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<p>~20-30 minutes \u2013In addition to reading books, students may use\u00a0 Education City and any reading assignment towards \u00a0the 30 minutes of reading .Education City: New website-students have their username and password on their planner.\u00a0 It is the yellow paper.<\/p>\n<p>~<strong>Reading Standard:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>RL 3.9 students will compare and contrast the themes, settings, and plots of stories written by the same author about the same or similar characters.<\/p>\n<h4>Craft and Structure:<\/h4>\n<div class=\"standard\">Suffixes, quotation Marks, and contractions.<\/div>\n<p><b>\u00a0Language Arts:\u00a0<\/b>Students study grammar\u00a0and language review Monday-Thursday.\u00a0 Study guide comes home Thursday and the quiz will be on Friday. We are focusing compound sentences and commas.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math<\/strong>:Operation and Algebraic Thinking<\/p>\n<p>Apply properties of operations as strategies to multiply and divide.<sup>2<\/sup>\u00a0<i>Examples: If 6 \u00d7 4 = 24 is known, then 4 \u00d7 6 = 24 is also known. (Commutative property of multiplication.) 3 \u00d7 5 \u00d7 2 can be found by 3 \u00d7 5 = 15, then 15 \u00d7 2 = 30, or by 5 \u00d7 2 = 10, then 3 \u00d7 10 = 30. (Associative property of multiplication.) Knowing that 8 \u00d7 5 = 40 and 8 \u00d7 2 = 16, one can find 8 \u00d7 7 as 8 \u00d7 (5 + 2) = (8 \u00d7 5) + (8 \u00d7 2) = 40 + 16 = 56.
