Hello everyone —

I apologize for not following up with everyone sooner, this year’s
registration process is going down to the wire.  As always, my
priority is making sure we can run the trip with as little expense
to the participants as possible.
There have been numerous technical glitches this year, and
rest assured that I have expressed our frustration to Brightspark.
As a consequence, they have allowed us to continue registering
participants way past the original deadline of October 6.
Yesterday, I spoke with Renee Tremble at Brightspark about
our current situation with regard to registration.  We currently
have 37 participants registered.  I assured her that based on
several students who have not yet registered, we will be able
to get to 42 participants by this Friday.
The trip is budgeted for 54 participants, and any amount
less than that means an additional cost.  Renee has agreed
to allow us to pay the rate for 45 participants even if we
only have 42.
I’ve attached her letter explaining Brightspark’s position.  The
extra expense is a bit more than I thought ($26 more), but
I am confident that we can fundraise enough to cover most of
that extra expense for the participants.
On WEDNESDAY, NOVEMBER 15, we have our first fundraising
opportunity.  The Germania Club Brownstown (run by Edsel Ford’s
own Aytes family) is hosting a German dinner.  Edsel students have
an opportunity to help serve the dinner and also perform some
German songs.  I will send out updates with additional fundraisers as well.
I spoke with several parents at conferences on Monday, and announced
a meeting for all participants in my room (E-10) at Edsel next Wednesday.
Unfortunately, I have a family obligation that day, and Thursday works better.
Please plan on attending the CHICAGO PARTICIPANT MEETING next THURSDAY,
NOVEMBER 9 from 7-8 pm in my room at Edsel.  If you can’t make it,
please let me know and I’ll pass along the information electronically.
I’ve attached Renee’s letter to this e-mail explaining the additional
expense — please let me know if you have questions or concerns
about this!  As always, thanks for your support of the German program
at Edsel!
