In lieu of Earth day today, our Social Justice Club at Smith is collecting recyclable pop bottles and cans all week.\u00a0 If you have any recyclable pop bottles or cans that you could\u00a0 donate, please deliver them to your Advisory teacher.<\/p>\n<p><strong>This week at Smith and in the Science classroom:\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Care to the Core Event<\/strong> will take place on Monday.\u00a0 We will follow the Friday intervention circle.\u00a0 We will meet with our advisory students in the afternoon to attend this event as a circle.<\/li>\n<li>Purpose of the <strong>&#8220;Care to the Core&#8221;<\/strong> activity is:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><em><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/www.gettingsmart.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/07\/Diversity-Students-Friendship-Feature-Image.jpg\" width=\"198\" height=\"137\" \/><\/em><strong>1. <\/strong><em>to have the students understand that each one of us brings something with us that is useful<\/em><br \/>\n<em>and good<\/em><br \/>\n<em>2. for the students to start looking at each other as having gifts and not just focusing on the<\/em><br \/>\n<em>faults<\/em><br \/>\n<em>3. how people who work together can conquer most anything\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>In Science:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Students will be assessed online on Monday (A-Day) and Tuesday (B-Day) on &#8220;Traits and Heredity&#8221;.\u00a0 Goodluck to all and I hope the powerpoint slideshow and study guide along with our classroom discussions has helped you become prepared for the test.<\/li>\n<li>Afterwards this week students will work in pairs\u00a0 then share\u00a0their comparisons and generate a list of general\u00a0characteristics for each mode of reproduction, and\u00a0discuss the advantages and disadvantages of both.\n<ul>\n<li>Their<strong> Essential Question<\/strong> would be: What are the advantages and disadvantages of sexual and asexual reproduction? Is one \u201cbetter\u201d\u00a0than the other?<\/li>\n<li><strong>Scenario:<\/strong> You are an Ecologist who wants to find out. To answer these questions students compare 5 aspects of organisms\u00a0that reproduce sexually with organisms that reproduce asexually. They will begin their study by looking at different organisms they are assigned with articles about them. Once their comparisons have been made, they will share the information with all of the other ecologists in our class to draw general\u00a0conclusions about each method of reproduction.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Every <strong>Friday<\/strong>, from 2:17 p.m.- 2:55 p.m. we have Study Hall where students report to one of their core subject teachers to complete a missing assignment, test\/quiz retake, or take part in a re-teach.\u00a0 Please make sure you are checking STUDENT\/PARENT Connect to help your child make a choice as to where they would like to be placed every Friday for Study Hall intervention.<\/li>\n<li>6th Grade M-Step is scheduled for Tuesdays May 1 and May 8 (Language Arts then Math).
