(Symbiosis is any long-term relationship between two or more species. Mutualism is a type of symbiosis, as is commensalism and parasitism.)

2) Another misconception students may believe that predation is similar to parasitism in that one organism benefits and the other is harmed. Students will be reminded that symbiosis is a long-term relationship between organisms, thus excluding the short-term relationship in predation. Use of the terms parasite and host will help to differentiate between parasitism and predation, as will thorough examples. In parasitism the host remains alive.

An interactive lab is scheduled for this week where students will have an organism and find their symbiotic match and identify whether the match is a mutualistic relationship, parasitic relationship or a commensalistic relationship.

One homework assignment will be posted on Google Classroom where students will color code the different symbiotic relationships among organisms.

A class project will be introduced this week.

Additional resource students will have access to in order to learn about symbiosis is included in the green Environmental Science textbook.

https://my.hrw.com/tabnav/controller.jsp?isbn=0030304911

Book E (Environmental Science), Chapter 1, section 3 starting at page 14 to 21.

A copy of my lesson plans from planbook is attached below.
