{"id":425,"date":"2016-10-16T17:08:59","date_gmt":"2016-10-16T21:08:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/savagea\/?p=425"},"modified":"2016-10-16T17:14:05","modified_gmt":"2016-10-16T21:14:05","slug":"week-of-october-17-to-21-2016","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/savagea\/2016\/10\/16\/week-of-october-17-to-21-2016\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of October 17 to 21, 2016"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>6th graders have successfully made it through the first semester and they have experienced and have become familiar with the following<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Google Classroom posts, labs and homework assignments.<\/li>\n<li>How to access google classroom from home.<\/li>\n<li>How to track their attendance and behavior in class daily using Class Dojo<\/li>\n<li>Input science lab stations (Read it, Watch it, Research it and Explore it).<\/li>\n<li>Starting class routines (taking attendance via Class dojo, copying and reflecting about the day&#8217;s content and language objective and answering bell work.)<\/li>\n<li>Using science journal for note-taking, lab stations and logging glossary.<\/li>\n<li>How to access the science textbook online<\/li>\n<li>How to track NWEA and set learning goals.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We will continue with the above routines, however a few more routines will be introduced so students could work harder and<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Take better class notes \u00a0(power point always posted for a week on Google Classroom).<\/li>\n<li>Review work completed in class as homework (Highlight important key ideas and glossary, research topic to become topic expert and ready for discussion the next time we meet).<\/li>\n<li>Become familiar with NGSS (new science standards).<\/li>\n<li>Introduce output science stations (informal assessments)&#8211;&gt; Write It, Assess it, Organize it, Illustrate it.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Overall the first semester was a success as we continued to carry great science conversations about topics we are learning about such as our recent one about the Energy Pyramid and how energy flows from one trophic level to another.<\/p>\n<p>This week students will experience science output stations, to assess their learning from last week&#8217;s input science stations. \u00a0Students will also continue to learn how matter is cycled and how much energy is transferred in (Joules\/Kcal) from one trophic level to another. \u00a0Their homework project relates to the same explanation.
