{"id":2787,"date":"2018-05-03T05:40:41","date_gmt":"2018-05-03T09:40:41","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/sapienp\/?p=2787"},"modified":"2018-05-03T06:00:09","modified_gmt":"2018-05-03T10:00:09","slug":"may-3-2018","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/sapienp\/2018\/05\/03\/may-3-2018\/","title":{"rendered":"May 3, 2018"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Objective<\/strong>: \u00a0I can distinguish the appeals in the Davidson article against gun control \u00a0by identifying quotes for the appropriate categories(ethos, pathos, logos, argumentum ad populum) and placing them on the poster chart with my elbow partners.<\/p>\n<p><strong>BW<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will read this appeal and definition: \u00a0Argumentum ad Populum(Argument to the People) \u00a0&#8220;If so many people believe it is so, it is so.&#8221; \u00a0Turn-and-Talk: \u00a0When does this idea apply in my own life?<\/p>\n<p><strong>Activities<\/strong>:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u00a0Independent Study: \u00a0Students will write a short reflection about how the Latin rhetorical appeal applies to their lives.<\/li>\n<li>Share Out: \u00a0Random selection of students to read aloud reflections. \u00a0Does this type of appeal provide the basis of a strong argument? \u00a0Why or Why not? \u00a0Is it a &#8220;fallacious&#8221; or false appeal?<\/li>\n<li>Set Up: \u00a0Using butcher block paper and markers, make a 4-column chart with these categories at the top: \u00a0ethos, pathos, logos, argumentum ad populum.<\/li>\n<li>Group Work: \u00a0Using the alternating marker method, list at least three quotes for each category.<\/li>\n<li>Share Out: \u00a0If time allows, groups will present their findings in front of the class.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Reminders<\/strong>: \u00a0Bring your DHS library book with the completed commitment form(if not submitted already) to class tomorrow. \u00a0Also, for those students who were absent \u00a0Wednesday(4\/25) or Tuesday(May 1), you are permitted to complete make-up work after school tomorrow(Friday May 4) from 2:15-3:00 pm.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Objective: \u00a0I can distinguish the appeals in the Davidson article against gun control \u00a0by identifying quotes for the appropriate categories(ethos, pathos, logos, argumentum ad populum) and placing them on the poster chart with my elbow partners.
