Objective<\/strong>: \u00a0I can utilize the 3-Step plan to annotate “How Much Exercise Do I Really Need?”.<\/p>\n

BW<\/strong>: \u00a0In your notebook, list these S<\/strong>trategies for Solving Roadblocks<\/strong>: \u00a01. Use prior knowledge of the word or word part. \u00a02. Break the word apart(roots and stems). \u00a03. Look for lists and similar words. 4. \u00a0Analyze topic and look for connections. \u00a05. Replace the word with one that you predict as an alternate word. \u00a06. Change the order of phrases or clauses in the sentence. \u00a07. \u00a0Examine parts of speech. \u00a08. \u00a0Read on and search for definition. (3rd Hour Students will talk-and-turn to brainstorm an addition to list.)<\/p>\n

Activities:<\/strong><\/p>\n

  1. Mark roadblocks: \u00a0Skim-read<\/strong> to find unknowns and box or circle them(1-2 min.)<\/li>\n
  2. Identify Claim Statement: \u00a0After turning the title into a question,<\/strong>\u00a0quick-read<\/strong> the text and underline the author’s statement that best answers it.<\/li>\n
  3. Identify maid ideas and golden lines: \u00a0Turn each subtitle into a question<\/strong> and look for a sentence that answers it for the main idea. \u00a0Underline<\/strong> it and any other\u00a0significant<\/strong> details for the golden lines.<\/li>\n
  4. Promethean Board: \u00a0Teacher models the previous step(#3) with a think-aloud for Paragraph #1 to find the main idea and golden line.<\/li>\n
  5. Promethean Board: \u00a0A volunteer student finds the main idea and golden line for Paragraph #2 and underlines them.<\/li>\n
  6. Think Pair\/Share: \u00a0Students will find the main ideas for Paragraphs #3 and #4.<\/li>\n
  7. Share Out: \u00a0What were the choices of several pairs?<\/li>\n
  8. If time allows, students will rewrite each main idea and golden line written by the author in consecutive order to begin the summary paragraph writing process.<\/li>\n
  9. Reminder<\/strong>: \u00a0Students will bring IDs for our trip to the library tomorrow. Also, be prepared to pay any fees withstanding.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n
