{"id":1446,"date":"2018-02-16T11:39:39","date_gmt":"2018-02-16T16:39:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/ruselink\/?p=1446"},"modified":"2018-02-16T11:39:39","modified_gmt":"2018-02-16T16:39:39","slug":"friday-newsletter-2-16-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/ruselink\/2018\/02\/16\/friday-newsletter-2-16-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Friday Newsletter, 2-16-18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>News and Information<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Winter Break<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>February 19th-23rd<\/p>\n<p><strong>Valentine&#8217;s Day<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Thank you for the many Valentine donations and for the volunteers who helped with our celebration.<\/p>\n<p><strong>100 Days of School<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We will be celebrating 100 Days of School on Monday, February 26th &#8211; the day we return from winter break.<\/p>\n<p>We will celebrate with a special snack mix.<\/p>\n<p>At home please count out 100 of \u201csomething\u201d to add to our mix (ideas include cereal pieces, fish crackers, pretzels or raisins) and bring it to school in a Ziploc baggie.<\/p>\n<p>We do not have any food allergies.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>What We Did This Week<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We review our Alpha Friends daily.<\/p>\n<p>We introduced the sight word: see<\/p>\n<p>We are &#8220;stretching sounds&#8221; and recording what we hear in our journals.<\/p>\n<p>We read more stories that we got from the Book Fair.<\/p>\n<p>In handwriting we are beginning practice with letters that have straight lines and curves.<\/p>\n<p>We are counting to 100 using songs and our math grid.<\/p>\n<p>We also practiced counting by 10\u2019s to 100.<\/p>\n<p>We continue our number talks and building numbers on the \u201cten frame.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>We also continue to practice our number formation.<\/p>\n<p>We practiced addition with simple number stories.<\/p>\n<p>In Science we talked about the human heart.\u00a0 We created a Valentine for our heart!<\/p>\n<p>We are introducing Habit 5, Seek First to Understand, Then Be Understood.<\/p>\n<p>We visited our special classes, Gym, Art, Music and Media<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In Second Steps we continue to practice reading emotions and having empathy.\u00a0 We talked about accidents and how to communicate and apologize to friends.<\/p>\n<p>We rotated through our Daily 5 Literacy Centers.<\/p>\n<p>Have a good winter break!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>News and Information Winter Break February 19th-23rd Valentine&#8217;s Day Thank you for the many Valentine donations and for the volunteers who helped with our celebration. 100 Days of School We will be celebrating 100 Days of School on Monday, February 26th &#8211; the day we return from winter break.
