Playing with Patterns

You may wonder “What is my child learning while they play?”  The answer is “A TON!”  As the children were working with the pattern blocks, they were naming the shapes and commenting how they can put some of the shapes together to make a new shape.  They traded with one another if they needed a specific shape.  Some children decided to make the same pictures with a partner.  Take a look at their creativity!

Pattern blocks are used to identify shapes and their characteristics such as how many sides or corners they have, sort, compose and decompose shapes, make patterns, develop spatial awareness, symmetry, geometry, and critical thinking skills.
