We had such a wonderful time and we truly could not have done it without you!

This week we have quite a few big rocks we will be working on. As a class one of our big rocks that we have been working on has been reflecting using our data. This week we will be starting our “Talk About it Tuesday” where we discuss our data with our accountability groups. As a group we will discuss what are some goals we are planning on accomplishing for math and reading. We then will be coming up with lead measures (action steps) that we can take to help us reach our goal. Every Tuesday they then will meet with their accountability group to see how they are doing on reaching their goal. Make sure to discuss with your child some of the action steps and what they are going to do to help reach their goal this week.

Please also be on the look out for their NWEA student goal sheets coming home following our “Talk About it Tuesday.”

Listed below are some of our other areas we will be working on:

Reading- Sequencing within a story, drama, or poem, reader’s theater, and how illustrations help readers understand the text further. This week we will also be covering irregular verbs within our word work. Please make sure that your child is continuing to read within their reading log.

Writing- Narrative Writing Topics.

Math- Analyzing patterns and problem solving for units of 0 and 1, practicing interpreting the unknown in multiplication and division to model and solve problems, and introducing the term “area” (space inside of a shape) within morning work.

Please continue logging into Zearn to complete extra lessons when you have the time. Students should be completing about 4 lessons a week for Zearn.

Social Studies- The impact of mining, farming, and lumber within Michigan’s growth and economy.

Science- This week in science we continued with the topic of dinosaurs. We asked the question, “Can you outrun a dinosaur?” Your child saw pictures showing how dinosaurs didn’t just leave behind bones, they also left footprints, some of which fossilized. By examining our own footprints and those of living animals, we were able to deduce how quickly some dinosaurs were able to run.

You can reinforce your child’s learning at home by pointing out footprints while on a walk. (Getting a shoe slightly wet in a puddle leaves behind visible tracks.) Ask your child, “Is it possible to tell the difference between walking and running just from footprints? How are they different?”

Spelling- content words: drama, scene, habitat, area, and mining

spelling pattern /scr/ /shr/ /spr/ and /thr/: scroll, throw, shrank, spring, and sprain

Leader in Me- Emotional Bank Accounts (EBA): This is a metaphor for the amount of trust that exists between two people. “Deposits” build and repair trust. “Withdrawls” break down trust.
