Our class is hard at work exploring our new units for the month of November and are looking forward to the upcoming holidays. As the weather is starting to get colder, please remember that we still go outside for recess. For recess if there is snow, your child must bring snow pants, boots, and gloves in order to play in the snow. Please remember to check the weather before sending your child in to school.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, thank you to all of those parents who volunteered, baked, or donated items to the Holiday Boutique. Our basket was the talk of the town! We couldn&#8217;t have done it without you.<\/p>\n<p>Lastly, listed below are some of the topics we will be covering this week and some of the events that will be occurring!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading-\u00a0<\/strong>Figurative language (idioms, literal\/non-literal, etc.) , setting personal reading goals, and asking questions.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing-\u00a0<\/strong>Opinion writing about whether or not we should serve turkey for Thanksgiving.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math-<\/strong>\u00a0Using a number line as a strategy to tell time the nearest minute on a clock and solving word problems using intervals on a clock.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies-\u00a0<\/strong>Early history of Michigan. Discussing a historian&#8217;s role, primary and secondary sources, and native American tribes in Michigan.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science-\u00a0<\/strong>This week in science we explored the mystery, \u201cHow can you predict when it\u2019s going to storm?\u201d We learned about differences between fair weather clouds and storm clouds, and the role of wind direction in determining whether a rain cloud will pass overhead. You can continue to support your child\u2019s curiosity by looking at clouds together and asking, \u201cWhat kind of clouds do you think those are? I wonder if it will rain\u2026\u201d Ask your child if they\u2019d like to show you their Storm Spotter\u2019s Guide, a small book they made to help them remember how to use the clouds to predict the weather.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling-\u00a0<\/strong><em>content words:\u00a0<\/em>weather, history, idiom, number, and hour<\/p>\n<p><em>spelling pattern (multi syllabic\u00a0v\/cv):\u00a0<\/em>music, basic, honor, tiger, and olive<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leader in Me:\u00a0<\/strong>Begin with the End in Mind- Talking about the importance of considering consequences before doing something.
