I just wanted to give a personal thank you to all of those parents who have donated to our class for our Halloween party and our Michigan Made Project. It really has made a huge difference and our class thanks you!<\/p>\n
Today your child has brought home their science, social studies, and math tests. Please review them with your child and return them to school signed by Wednesday.\u00a0<\/strong><\/span> As third graders they can retake their tests if they score below an 80%. If you would like a retake on any test, please just email me and we can set up a time that your child can stay after school to complete their retake.<\/p>\n Listed below are the items we are working on this week to get our next card marking up and running!<\/p>\n Reading-\u00a0<\/strong>Teaching literal and non-literal phrases and meanings. Discussing summarizing a story using the 5 finger Retell (Somebody, Wanted, But, So, Then).<\/p>\n Writing-\u00a0<\/strong>Opinion and Persuasive Writing Essays.\u00a0Third graders have strong opinions about their world. They want a phone, longer lunch time in school, or better playground equipment for the park near their home. They will make an argument for just about anything around them. This unit is geared to harness all that energy and begin to build a persuasive essay. The focus will be around building a strong persuasive essay that includes a strong claim with reasons and convincing evidence. Writers will learn their voices have power and that power can ultimately make changes in their lives.<\/p>\n Math-\u00a0<\/strong>Students begin by learning to tell and write time to the nearest minute using analog and digital clocks in Topic A (3.MD.1).\u00a0 They understand time as a continuous measurement through exploration with stopwatches and use the number line, a continuous measurement model, as a tool for counting intervals of minutes within 1 hour (3.MD.1).\u00a0 Students see that an analog clock is a portion of the number line shaped into a circle.\u00a0 They use both the number line and clock to represent addition and subtraction problems involving intervals of minutes within 1 hour (3.MD.1).<\/p>\n Science-\u00a0<\/strong>Unit 2 \u2013 Weather & Climate; Patterns and Natural Hazards- This week in science we explored the mystery, \u201cWhere do clouds come from?\u201d Your child observed important clues, such as the fact that water changes from a liquid to a gas (even without boiling!). You can continue to support your child\u2019s curiosity by pointing out water vapor whenever you see it rising off hot water in the kitchen or bath, or pointing out tiny droplets of water forming on a mirror, windows, or glasses. Engage their minds by asking, \u201cWow, why do you think this is happening?\u201d<\/p>\n Social Studies-\u00a0<\/strong>Unit 2- Michigan’s History;\u00a0In this unit, students use primary and secondary sources of information to explore the early history of Michigan.
