This week, we\u2019ll be discussing, practicing, and applying our text dependent analysis (TDA) strategies to a novel: S.E. Hinton\u2019s The Outsiders. Over the next few weeks, we\u2019ll be reading The Outsiders and considering plot elements, character dynamics, themes, examples of figurative language, and how the story ties into real historical events. In addition, we\u2019ll be reviewing literary devices and techniques to keep our skills sharp.

PDF files of the chapters will be uploaded directly to Google Classroom, so there is no need to buy or borrow your own copy of the text. Feel free to listen along with the audio book while you read, a link to the audio book will be provided in Google Classroom as well. Do Now 3 \u2013 There is a lot of slang used in The Outsiders \u2013 pick 2 slang words that the characters use, and explain what modern-day slang word you would replace it with. For example \u2013 The Greasers refer to police officers as \u201cthe fuzz,\u201d whereas today, we might say \u201ccops.\u201d
