March is Reading Month Activities<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Theme – Wizard of Oz<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Begins Monday, February 28th!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Your child will be reading the Wizard of Oz <\/strong>by L. Frank Baum in the classroom. (Reading schedule posted by me on this blog).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*They should read independently each night (books at their level<\/strong>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n

K-2 \u2013 20 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

3-5 \u2013 30 minutes<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Each night they read for this amount of time please color a yellow brick on the \u201cRoad to Emerald City\u201d reading log!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Return reading logs to school each MONDAY so your child can earn a yellow brick to help us build a road to get our characters to the Emerald City! Weekly participation prizes can also be earned for students who read each night at home. The class with the most participation will also earn a pizza party!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*Lastly we have attached a BINGO Board! Your child can do the activities at home then add a picture of them to our school padlet:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This is a great way to see how everyone is participating!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

*We will be watching the movie as a school after we finish the book. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Book Swap<\/strong>\u2013 Please send in a gently used book your child does not want anymore. We will wrap them and the students can choose a new book to take home. Have these books in by March 4.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Guest Readers-<\/strong> We are inviting parents to come to school and read to the class. We will do this on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in March. The dates are March 2, 3, 7, 8, 9, 10, 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, 23 and 24.<\/strong> We will do this at 3:30pm<\/strong> on those days. Plan on reading a book for about 15 minutes. <\/strong>Your child can help you pick a book from your home or the library, but be sure it is age appropriate. No snacks or treats please<\/strong><\/em>. Your reading is the treat! Email me<\/strong> the day you would like to read. Slots are limited so first come, first serve.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
