ABC’s of My Day

Dear Parents,

This year, priority has been placed on teaching children to identify problems, brainstorm solutions, and evaluate results.  One of the most valuable things we can teach children is to assess their attitude, behavior, and teamwork so that they can plan accordingly. Starting in September, your child will have a chart to review his/her day.

The ABC’s of My Day will let us work together to help the children reach this goal.

A is for Attitude

B is for Behavior

C is for Community (teamwork)

Each day the children will complete their charts according to how they believe they have performed that day.  They will use the color coding outlined on the chart.  I will be checking the charts daily to determine whether the children’s evaluations match my own.  At times, the children and I will not agree on a certain evaluation.  I may ask a child to reevaluate and make a change, but I will not insist that the child change it for me.  Instead, if the student believes he/she deserved one color and I believe it should be a different color, I will mark the chart with a “DA” (don’t agree).  If you see that on the front of the chart, you should flip the chart over to view my comments.

We will be completing our charts each day, I ask you to sign your child’s chart at the end of each week.  If you wish, you may also make comments on the back.

If you have any questions or comments, please feel free to contact me.  I look forward to working with you to instill responsibility in the children, and to ensure a happy and safe learning environment.

Yours in learning,

Leah Polster
