Ask 5-6 questions daily.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Student reading logs need to be filled out and signed by parents and returned when due.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Weekly reading\/spelling patterns are found on Spelling City. \u00a0 Students should visit this website to practice new weekly patterns which will help improve reading, spelling, and writing skills.\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After reading, here are some additional questions to ask your child some questions about the book that they just read. Listed below are some sample questions: <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Fiction Questions<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-What was the problem in the story? How was the problem solved?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">-Are you like the main character or are you different? Explain why. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; What part of the story was the most exciting? Why? <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">&#8211; Which character from the story would you choose to be your friend? Why?<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><i>Nonfiction Questions<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the main idea of the text? <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What did you learn from reading this text?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Were there any text features (heading, diagram, chart, etc.) that were important?<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What questions would you ask the author about the topic? <\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">After they have finished the book, have students write about whether or not they would recommend the book to the class. Have them explain why or why not. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Along with their nightly reading, your student should also study their weekly spelling words.
