At 12:30 Kindergartners will change into their costumes and the party will take place from 1-2 pm. Homeroom moms will be calling for volunteers to work at stations and\u00a0 help with costumes. We need at least 12 volunteers for the party. First graders will join Mrs. Dika&#8217;s classroom for their Halloween party. First graders don&#8217;t forget to wear orange and black for the party.<\/p>\n<p>Thank you to all who have donated to our class party fund.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Library<\/strong> &#8211; every Wednesday of the month your child has library check-in\/out for library books. Please remember your child has a whole week to enjoy their library book. Some students have been returning library books the following day after visiting the library.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Conferences<\/strong> &#8211; Conferences are scheduled in November on Thursday, November 14, Wednesday, November 20 and Thursday, November 21. If you have not scheduled a time for a conference, please contact me to arrange a time soon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math Test &#8211;<\/strong> First graders will take Unit 2 math test on Tuesday, October 29. A study-guide note was sent home so you can help your child prepare for the test.<\/p>\n<p><strong>PBIS<\/strong> &#8211; We will have our October PBIS celebration for students who have had made good positive behavior choices for the month of October. We will celebrate with a Halloween movie on Friday, November 1st in the late afternoon.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Star of the Week<\/strong> &#8211; Thank you Calum Carscadden for doing a fine job as Star of the Week! This week our new Star of the Week is Sophia Collazo. Congratulations!<\/p>\n<p><strong>Star of the Month for November<\/strong> is Dylan Evitts. Dylan keep up the good work and behavior! You have been setting a good example of what a star student is at Nowlin.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong>A Peek at the Week:<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Kindergarten<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Handwriting Letter of the Week &#8211; Jj\u00a0 Letters and Sounds A-M <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sight Words to review: a, I, see, the, is, my<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Math<\/strong> &#8211; Recognizing and writing teen numbers, estimating objects in a jar and comparing, beginning number stories &#8211; adding and subtracting, symmetry painting. I will be finishing up on Math testing for Card Marking 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Daily Five<\/strong> &#8211; We have introduced all the Daily Five areas &#8211; Read to Someone, Read to Self, Work on Writing, Work on Word and Listen to Reading.<\/p>\n<p>We continue to work in these Daily Five areas and build areas of Comprehension, Accuracy, Fluency and Expanding our Vocabulary so we can become better readers and writers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong> &#8211; We will review our Science unit on Earth Science.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies<\/strong> &#8211; We will review our Social Studies unit on family, school, and our community. We enjoyed studying family traditions\/celebrations.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong> &#8211; Students are learning concepts of print, sight words and reading strategies\u00a0 during shared reading. Students will continue to bring home emergent readers- paper back books to read at home. Please sign these books on the back for to indicate; parent read along.\u00a0 I also have been testing students in reading for Card Marking 1.<\/p>\n<p><strong>First Grade<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Spelling &#8211; ut and ug family<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>cut, shut, bug, hug, rug<\/p>\n<p><strong>High frequency words<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>run, jump, but<\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading<\/strong> &#8211; I have sent home reading logs for students to log-in for 20 minutes every night. This is reading homework. I will finish testing students in reading for Card marking 1 this week. As students progress in reading in the next month, students will be given reading response sheets in book bags to check for comprehension.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math &#8211;<\/strong> Test Tuesday. Please use student password and log-in to Every Day Mathematics for games and review of units. I will finish up on testing students this week in math for Card Marking 1. We are working on counting by 2&#8217;s, 5&#8217;s, 10&#8217;s and counting by 1&#8217;s to 120. Writing our numbers accurately is very important. We will work on number stories, adding\/subtracting, making patterns and extending patterns, and working with odd and even numbers.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science<\/strong> &#8211; We will review our unit on Life Science with Animals<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies<\/strong> &#8211; We will review our unit on History &#8211; family, school, community, environment.
