Dearborn Public Schools has a new Spelling Program. The Spelling Program’s goal is to develop clear, competent writing in which conventional spelling is used proficiently. With this in mind, a specific word pattern is focused on each week. To determine mastery of the focused word pattern, the children will be given a spelling test in class each Friday. Ten of the spelling words have been given to the children to study and 5 “cold” words will be added to the list on Friday. So, their spelling test will consist of 15 words. The purpose of adding the “cold” words on Friday is to determine if the word pattern has been learned by the children.
