The parade will be starting at 2.\u00a0 Please make sure your child has their costumes in bags.\u00a0 They will put their costumes on after lunch.<\/li>\n<li>There is no school on Tuesday, November 3<sup>rd<\/sup> due to voting day. There is a \u00bd day on Friday, November 6<sup>th<\/sup> for records day.<\/li>\n<li>We are coming to the end of our Social Studies unit, \u201cHow Do We Learn About the Past?\u201d<\/li>\n<li>The DuVall pledge is at the end of the blog if you would like to practice it with your child.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SPELLING:\u00a0 We are working on the \u201car\u201d chunk!\u00a0 The words for the week are: car, are, art, far, star, yard<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>WRITING:\u00a0 We just completed our \u201cpast, present, future\u201d writing.\u00a0 These stories will be hung in the hallway outside our classroom.\u00a0 We will begin a short writing piece about things that we are thankful to have in our lives.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>READING: \u00a0All students should be bringing their book bag home every day and the book bag needs to come back to school the next day.\u00a0 Every child needs to read the books in their bag at home, even if they have read it before.\u00a0 Rereading books helps with a child\u2019s fluency. During our reading lessons we are learning:\u00a0 how to read for punctuation and how to pay attention to interesting words.\u00a0 We are also using our strategies that we have learned to help ourselves when we read.\u00a0 Please do not stop your child every time he\/she makes an error.\u00a0 We want the students to monitor their own reading.\u00a0 After the reading is finished, you can ask your child to go back to the page where he\/she made a mistake.\u00a0 Tell them that they got \u201ctricked\u201d and will need to reread carefully.\u00a0 If they continue to make an error, direct them to look at the letters in the word, check the picture, reread and try the word out.\u00a0 We want the students to use the visual information in the words along with the meaning of the story in the pictures to decode unknown words.\u00a0 The rereading helps them to remember what the story is about.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MATH:\u00a0 We will be working on story problems as well as using the number line for addition.\u00a0 The students have also taken their first timed fluency test this week.\u00a0 They had to complete 30 addition problems in 5 minutes.\u00a0 We will continue these tests so that the students become fluent in basic math facts from zero to ten.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SCIENCE:\u00a0 \u00a0We are beginning to study Matter and Magnets.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>SOCIAL STUDIES:\u00a0 We are wrapping up our first unit, \u201cHow Do We Learn About the Past?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Here is the DuVall Pledge:<\/p>\n<p>I am a DuVall Student<\/p>\n<p>I am honest and courteous.<\/p>\n<p>I respect myself and others.<\/p>\n<p>I am responsible, I do my work every day.<\/p>\n<p>I have integrity, I make the right choices.<\/p>\n<p>I value diversity and I am a peacemaker.<\/p>\n<p>I am a good citizen and I am a lifelong learner.<\/p>\n<p>HOORAY FOR ME!<\/p>\n<p>HOORAY FOR DUVALL!<\/p>\n<p>I AM A BUCKET FILLER!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0NEED TO KNOW: &nbsp; Our class Halloween party is Friday, October from 2:15-3:25 in room 102.
