STUDY<\/p>\n<p><b>~1800 &#8211; 1940s Migration took place for many Europeans to the United States of America. Most traveled by boat.<\/b><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Examples of Push factors: war, famine, no jobs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>New York is a port of entry for people to the United States.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>A geographer would ask\u00a0Why have people moved to Michigan?<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Factories are an example of industry.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>In 2008, the automobile industry was a major cause of people leaving the state of Michigan because of the loss of jobs.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>Maps of public transportation show how someone can travel from one city to another by public trains, subways,bus or trolley systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ol start=\"7\">\n<li>Noise polution\u00a0is caused by traffic, airports and shops. Air pollution is caused by peopls.<\/li>\n<li>8. \u00a0A Navigation system\u00a0(Like GPS or Google Maps) is a geographical \u00a0\u00a0system that helps you drive to destinations.<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Recycling helps put less waste in landfills.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>~Migration also occurred in America during the 1840s with the Underground Railroad<\/b><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Enslaved Africans in the south sang songs to give directions about how to escape to the north.<\/li>\n<li>The song, \u201cFollow the drinkin gourd\u201d was a code for follow the stars (like the Big Dipper) as a guide to the North for enslaved people.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><b>~Westward Migration took place in the late 1800s and early 1900s because people were running out of space, lack of jobs and people had to adjust\/adapt to new environments.<\/b><\/p>\n<ol start=\"10\">\n<li>The people of The Great Plains used sod for their houses because it was a natural resource in the area. People used materials for their houses based on their geographic location. They adapted to new environments.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"11\">\n<li>Removal of the Potawatomi forced them to migrate to different states during this time too. This group remains close to this day by going to a tribal reunion.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Part B. Short Answer<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Why does Michigan have the ability to grow a greater variety of crops than Canada?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol>\n<li>In the United States, Growing seasons are longer in the South than the North. Why?<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<ol start=\"3\">\n<li>The Underground Railroad was a secret route used by enslaved people \u00a0\u00a0to migrate. Using your notes, identify a Michigan person who helped and tell what they did.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>Give a push and a pull factor that drove people to use the Underground Railroad.<\/p>\n<p>Tell why Michigan was an important stop on the railroad.<\/p>\n<p>Part C. Essay<\/p>\n<p>Answer the questions. Make sure you address both points.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Many people migrate from one country to another.
