{"id":44,"date":"2013-10-10T18:19:49","date_gmt":"2013-10-10T22:19:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/paranag\/?p=44"},"modified":"2013-10-10T18:19:49","modified_gmt":"2013-10-10T22:19:49","slug":"the-parana-post-101013","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/paranag\/2013\/10\/10\/the-parana-post-101013\/","title":{"rendered":"The Parana Post 10\/10\/13"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a busy couple of weeks.\u00a0 Students have been working hard!\u00a0 Below is a list of all the things we&#8217;ve been learning about:<\/p>\n<p>Math:\u00a0 Lots of addition practice in the last couple of weeks through lessons and games.<\/p>\n<p>Writing:\u00a0 We&#8217;ve talked about the writing process:\u00a0 planning, drafting, revising, editing, and publishing.\u00a0 Many students are working on their published pieces.\u00a0 I will send them home to finish if students haven&#8217;t finished by Friday.\u00a0 That way students can have the weekend and the 3 days next week to finish.\u00a0 Some students have already finished their published pieces.\u00a0 Parents who want extra writing practice can have their kids write at home over the 3 day break.<\/p>\n<p>Reading:\u00a0 Great job with the reading homework.\u00a0 It&#8217;s very important for kids to be reading each night, reading books that are just right for them, not too hard and not too easy.\u00a0 Students have been working and practicing strategies such as:\u00a0 chunking the sounds, stretching sounds and rereading, asking important details such as who, what, when, where, why, and how.\u00a0 We also practiced what fluent reading sounds like.\u00a0 Fluent reading should sound expressive and sound like someone talking.<\/p>\n<p>Spelling:\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been looking at parts of words and noticed how knowing a word or chunk of a word can help a student read and write new words that look like the known word.<\/p>\n<p>Science:\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been learning about the\u00a0 needs of plants and the life cycle of plants:\u00a0 seed, plant, flower, fruit.<\/p>\n<p>Social Studies:\u00a0 We&#8217;ve been learning about citizens in the community and what makes a good citizen.\u00a0 We discussed respect and responsibility of citizens in the Dearborn community.<\/p>\n<p>Popcorn\/Bake Sale:\u00a0 October 18th is our popcorn\/bake sale.\u00a0 Thank you so much for the notification of baked good parents will be sending in.\u00a0 All of the money earned can be applied to classroom supplies, books, etc.<\/p>\n<p>Field Trip:\u00a0 We will go on a field trip to the Dearborn Fire House on Monday, October 28th from 12;30-2:30.\u00a0 A permission slip will come home soon.<\/p>\n<p>Halloween Party:\u00a0 We will have a Halloween party on Thursday, October 31.\u00a0 Details will come home in a note soon.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be sending home the math log in cards soon.\u00a0 This way, parents can print the Home Links at home after reading the blog about what home link to print.\u00a0 If anyone does not have a printer please let me know and I can make your child a copy.<\/p>\n<p>Have a great weekend!<\/p>\n<p>Sincerely,<\/p>\n<p>Gina Parana<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>It&#8217;s been a busy couple of weeks.\u00a0 Students have been working hard!\u00a0 Below is a list of all the things we&#8217;ve been learning about: Math:\u00a0 Lots of addition practice in the last couple of weeks through lessons and games.
