Pep Band Zoom

Hi!

I would like to invite you all to a Pep Band (typically Marching Band) Zoom next week. You are only required to attend if you’re currently part of Pep Band and have been to practices this summer. This is for anyone who is interested in playing together, outdoors, and after school. This is fun Marching Band style music and all are welcome!

If you would like to consider, here is what you need to do:

  1. Download the ‘Band’ App. Yes, it’s called Band
  2. Search Edsel Ford Band
  3. Request to join
  4. Take the poll on what day(s) work best for you

This is not – ‘here’s a practice schedule’

This is – Let’s talk about what is possible and make a decision together.

Can & Bottle Return

They’re already ‘collected’!

Greetings!

Today 9/9, Thursday 9/10, and Friday 9/11 we are in GREAT need of help from our performing arts families. We are looking for volunteers to move the cans and bottles into the trailer, and we will work out a date for returns during after normal school hours.

If families can take a car load back while they are there, that would be most helpful. You can return up $25 PER PERSON at a time. Parent and student in the car? That’s $50. It’s not $25 per group.

Half of the money goes to you directly and half of the money goes to the ensembles (band, choir, orchestra, theatre). Please sign up! Our community chipped in to help us out and we need to take care of the pile.

CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP – This has to be done by the weekend, but you can sign up for whatever time is best for your family. Thank you! We only have the things we do because of fundraisers like this.

Half to you! Performing Arts Apparel? Future field trips? Solo and Ensemble? Whatever you need!

Half to the ensembles for what we need for you!

Marching Band Meeting Reminder

Today is the big day! via Zoom at 7:00 p.m. We will be covering the following:

  • Camp Dates
  • What camp will look like
  • Safety measures
  • Inclement weather protocols
  • Football schedule
  • Performance possibilities

This shouldn’t last anymore than 30 – 45 minutes, but there will be plenty of time for Q&A. Coming to the meeting is not signing you up for the season. This is to give you the above information, work out rehearsal times, and to discuss the best way to proceed with our given circumstances.

I’m optimistic and taking every precaution 🙂 If there are more things that I haven’t thought of, we’ll definitely address those at the meeting. See you on Zoom!

Grading is done

Good Morning,

Anything that was turned in is up to date. If you have any questions regarding your grade, please e-mail me at broekhs@dearbornschools.org.

Mrs. B

Grading

Good Afternoon EF Band, Orchestra, & Piano Students,

Many students have e-mailed me regarding grades. Here is the district-wide grading policy:

75% or better = A

60% – 74% = G (credit, does not count towards your GPA)

Below 60% = N (no credit)

All assignments that were up to date yesterday morning have been graded. If you did not complete assignments or did not begin remote learning coursework until this week, it will be graded over the weekend. Please remember that assignments were never intended to be completed in a one week period. One assignment per week was required with a due date of the following Saturday.

Please note that it is imperative that you communicate with your teachers and Edsel Ford administration if your family has faced a hardship due to COVID-19. As a school, we need to understand where you’re coming from and if there have been circumstances beyond your control. We are here to help you!

I encourage you to check which assignments that have been graded on Student Connect. You may check as often as you like, but give both myself and your other teachers a chance to do that. If you completed assignments after I called or e-mailed you individually to notify that you/your child was at-risk of failing, they will be graded over the weekend.

A dangerous question: “Do I have to do anything else?” Students… If you’re thinking about sending that message, read the grading policy above, check Student Connect, check the assignments on iLearn and then…. don’t send that e-mail 🙂 Just….. don’t.

I can assure you that I will be going through each individual grade with a ‘fine tooth comb.’ You will be hearing from me over the weekend if anything appears to be wrong.

Signing off.

Last One!!

Good Morning, Edsel Musicians!

This is officially your last obligatory assignments for the semester:

Click here to access the survey.

With such a light assignment, this is a good time to play catch-up on any missing assignments if you have them. ALL of them back to April are posted on iLearn. You can still complete them for full credit.

******Make sure you complete them so you get class credit. Mrs. Strong and I will both be making phone calls this week and next week to students that are behind. Please save us all a great deal of time and complete the assignments.

May 26 – 30 Music Assignments

Greetings, Musicians!

All assignments are posted on iLearn. I am particularly happy with the Music Appreciation option. Movie time!! I studied Film Music for a music class in college and loved it. Take a break from the heat, turn on the A.C., and watch your favorite movies from a different perspective: Music!

Band: Shillelagh! including percussion or Film Music – Music Appreciation Option

Orchestra: Donegal Fiddles or Film Music – Music Appreciation Option.

Piano: Piano performance, Film Music – Music Appreciation Option, or Music Theory – Lesson 7

Big Blue Button Office Hours

Please log on to BBB via iLearn this week if you have any questions, concerns, or would like to use it as one of your two weekly check-ins. If you can’t login during your scheduled office hour, please e-mail me immediately.
