Thank you very much to those that helped out with Silent Auction donations for the spaghetti dinner in just a couple of weeks. We even have a ukulele donated by Anderson Music! Let’s kick it into gear this weekend and get one donation per household in place by next week. Remember, this is not supposed to come out of your pocket. Ask a local business owner. All students were sent home with a basic script to follow and call a place.

Festival – Return Time

Hi All,

Due to bus availability, we will not be leaving Thurston High School next Friday until 4:30. Band will be done with Sight Reading around 2:35/2:40 if events are running on time. Thurston is about 15-20 minutes away, and if you would like to pick up your child from Festival, that is absolutely fine. If you are picking up early from Thurston, please send me an e-mail or a signed note so that I am aware your child won’t be on the return bus.

Please remember this is your last weekend to prepare at home, so practice, practice, and then…. practice 🙂

Mrs. Oren

Instrumental Music News 2/19 – 2/22

Greetings, Instrumentalists!

Lots of information, but all important.

MSBOA Festival – Friday, March 1 We are in need of two chaperons to attend (1 to ride each bus). Please ask your child for the green sheet/itinerary for all of the details.

Detroit Symphony Orchestra, Educational Concert Series – Mrs. Meyer was able to get a grant for a free field trip next Wednesday, February 27. Due to a limited number of tickets, this is only for students who are enrolled in band or orchestra, or those I have spoken with that regularly attend class.
Depart Edsel: 9:30
Return: 12:00
I am checking on lunches and I’ll keep you posted.

Mangia, Music, & More! Please start planning ahead for the biggest instrumental fundraiser of the year on Friday, March 22! Tickets will be going home with students tomorrow in a white envelope.
$10 for adults
$5 for performing students or children 10 & under
Donations: Each family is asked to bring a 2 liter of your choosing and to find a local business to donate to our silent auction. The cost of the donation is not meant to come out of your pocket. Last year we had a mystery book box, red wings tickets, home made quilts/blankets, LOTS of gift cards, etc.

We are also looking for dessert donations. If you would like to make something, wonderful! If you would like to call a local bakery and ask for a donation, wonderful!

This is a big event for us, and we go in with the “many hands make less work” philosophy. Once you get there, it’s smooth sailing and we hope you have a great time. You will get to see all of our ensembles perform 🙂
Please e-mail me with any questions at
