Happy New Year!\u00a0 I hope everyone enjoyed our two week break.\u00a0 I am grateful that I was able to spend time with my family and friends during this time, but I missed seeing my students as well. I can\u2019t wait to hear what you did over break.\u00a0 Congratulations to Waleed Saeed, Karar Albaghdady, Wegdan Alsamiri, Fayed Fayed, and Amatalrahman Saleh for logging I-Ready minutes over break! Great job to the students who completed new missions on Zearn!\u00a0 We have two weeks until the end of the card marking, so we will be jumping right back into school mode tomorrow.\u00a0 Wednesday will be book checkout.\u00a0 Don\u2019t forget your library books.\u00a0 New spelling words will come out tomorrow with our usual test on Friday.\u00a0 NWEA and I-Ready testing windows open this week.\u00a0 However, we will not start testing until next week.\u00a0 This will give kids some time to brush up on previous learning and get a few extra minutes in on the I-Ready program.\u00a0 It is very important that students are on this program at least 45 minutes per week and are passing their lessons with at least 80% proficiency.\u00a0 Here is what our upcoming week looks like.<\/p>\n
Math:\u00a0 We will spend time learning strategies for subtracting with regrouping with a focus on place value.\u00a0 We will also work on word problems.<\/p>\n
Science:\u00a0 We will analyze how surface area affect the evaporation rate of water by conducting an investigation and recording measurement data in a data chart.<\/p>\n
Social Studies:\u00a0 We will learn about Henry Ford as an entrepreneur, manufacturing, and reasons why people came to Michigan.<\/p>\n
Reading:\u00a0 We will be learning how to recount stories by summarizing the important information from the beginning, middle, and end as well as determining the central message.<\/p>\n
Writing:\u00a0 We are starting a new unit on opinion writing.\u00a0 Students will start with a cold write on Monday to show what they know about opinion writing.\u00a0 The rest of the week will be spent analyzing mentor texts so students get an idea of what good opinion writers do.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
