We have officially made it through one fourth of the school year!\u00a0 The first quarter ended last Friday.\u00a0 This means beginning Monday we start with a clean slate as we enter into the second marking period.\u00a0 Report cards are completed and you will get those during parent-teacher conferences which begin on Thursday.\u00a0 Conference reminder notes have been sent home.\u00a0 If you have not returned it to school indicating if the time is good for you, please do so by Wednesday.\u00a0 Also, if you need a translator, please indicate that when returning your slips.<\/p>\n
There will be no school on Tuesday due to Election Day.\u00a0 Remember to get out there and vote!<\/p>\n
We will have our field trip to the Lincoln Park roller skating rink on Wednesday.\u00a0 This is a science field trip where students will learn about the physics and engineering behind roller skates.\u00a0 They will participate in a hands-on science project prior to skating.\u00a0 All field trips are required as they are a learning opportunity outside of the classroom.\u00a0 If there is an issue where you feel your child can\u2019t go, please contact me so we can work something out.\u00a0 There are still many students that have not returned permission slips.\u00a0 Please make sure those are in by Monday.\u00a0 If your child does not attend the trip, they must still be in school and will be placed in another classroom for the day.<\/p>\n
Here is what we will be learning this week:<\/p>\n
Math:\u00a0 We will be having a short quiz on what we have learned so far in our new Unit. We will then be moving on to understanding how to measure volumes and mass.<\/p>\n
Science:\u00a0 We will be finishing up our patterns of motion unit with spinning tops.\u00a0 Students will be getting a study guide on Wednesday after the field trip.\u00a0 There will be a test next week on investigation 2 which focuses on patterns of motion.<\/p>\n
Social Studies:\u00a0 We will focus on how Native Americans used, adapted to, and changed their environment.<\/p>\n
Reading:\u00a0 We will focus on asking and answering questions in literary text.\u00a0 We are working on answering in complete sentences by restating the question as a statement and citing evidence from the text to explain how we know our answer is correct.<\/p>\n
Writing:\u00a0 We will be introducing informational writing by analyzing how good authors write informational text.\u00a0 Students will be noticing things authors do such as using text features, diagrams, table of contents, etc.\u00a0 These will be features that students will be incorporating into their own writing once we choose topics in the weeks to come.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
