I hope that everyone is doing well and that you had a nice Memorial Day Weekend. As we enter our final three weeks of school it is imperative that you work on catching up on your missing work during our social learning period. I have sent individual emails to those who are missing work and I will continue to do this weekly until we end our school year. If you have any questions please feel free to contact us. Also there will be no video for you to watch this week just the article reflection logs<\/strong> to complete.<\/p>\n

United Farm Workers Organizing Committee<\/u><\/strong><\/span>–<\/strong> A labor union for farmworkers employed in the United States.<\/p>\n

Trail of Broken Treaties March<\/u><\/strong><\/span>– <\/strong>A cross-country protest that was staged in the autumn of 1972 by American Indian and First Nations organizations who were concerned about the lack of support shown by the government for Indian rights.<\/p>\n

Feminism<\/u><\/strong><\/span>– <\/strong>The advocacy of women’s rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes.<\/p>\n

The Feminine Mystic<\/u><\/strong><\/span>– <\/strong>A book by Betty Friedan that is widely credited with sparking the beginning of second-wave feminism in the United States.<\/p>\n

National Organization for Women<\/u><\/strong><\/span>–<\/strong> A group of feminists who were dedicated to actively challenging sex discrimination in all areas of American society.<\/p>\n

Roe v. Wade<\/u><\/strong><\/span>– A landmark decision of the U.S. Supreme Court in which the Court ruled that the Constitution of the United States protects a pregnant woman’s liberty to choose to have an abortion without excessive government restriction.<\/p>\n

Equal Rights Amendment<\/span><\/u><\/strong>– A proposed amendment to the US Constitution stating that civil rights may not be denied on the basis of one’s sex.<\/p>\n

Counterculture<\/u><\/strong><\/span>–<\/strong> a way of life and set of attitudes opposed to or at variance with the prevailing social norm.<\/p>\n

Hippies<\/u><\/strong><\/span>– A member of the counterculture of the 1960s, originally a youth movement that began in the United States during the mid-1960s and spread to other countries around the world.<\/p>\n

Woodstock<\/u><\/strong><\/span>– a three day festival of peace and music held in August 1969, on Max Yasgur’s dairy farm in Bethel, New York.<\/p>\n

For this week we are asking that you read the four articles posted below which examine the period of social and political unrest in the United States that divided generations of Americans leading to the creation of the counterculture movement. Remember that you are required to read all four articles, but you only have to submit a reflections log for one of the articles.
