Some typical uses of outlining are: a class reading assignment, an essay, a term paper, a book review or a speech.\u00a0 For any of these, an outline will show\u00a0 a basic overview and important details.<\/p>\n<h2><span style=\"color: #ff00ff;\">This is probably the one you&#8217;re most used to&#8230; Its taking a large amount of<a href=\"https:\/\/blog.dearbornschools.org\/msreda\/note-taking-strategies-and-instructions\/outlining-the-text\/outline2\/\" rel=\"attachment wp-att-609\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright size-full wp-image-609\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/msreda\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/41\/2013\/01\/outline2.gif\" alt=\"outline2\" width=\"420\" height=\"634\" \/><\/a> text and divides it up into categories, working off of the headings in your book. The benefit of this is that your book is already divided into heading, a broad category and then several smaller subsections within. If you prefer to do your notes this way, your notes will look a lot like the picture on the right. Below is a simple outline of how it will look like:<\/span><\/h2>\n<p><b>BASIC OUTLINE\u00a0 FORM<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Below is a synopsis of the outline form. The main ideas take roman numerals. Sub-points under each main idea take capital letters and are indented. Sub-points under the capital letters, if any, take italic numbers and are further indented.<\/p>\n<p>I.\u00a0 MAIN IDEA<br \/>\nA. Subsidiary idea or supporting idea to I<br \/>\nB. Subsidiary idea or supporting idea to I<br \/>\n1. Subsidiary idea to B<br \/>\n2. Subsidiary idea to B<br \/>\na) Subsidiary idea to 2<br \/>\nb) Subsidiary idea to 2<\/p>\n<p>II.\u00a0 MAIN IDEA<br \/>\nA. Subsidiary or supporting idea to II<br \/>\nB. Subsidiary idea to II<br \/>\nC.
