There will be an extensive study of different civilizations that existed and their impact on the environment, their neighbors, and on the course of mankind. Certain people will be studied including the Chinese, Japanese, Muslims, Mongols, Mughals, and Ottomans. I am rigorous. I demand rigor. If you do not plan on doing the work I assign at the expectations that I set, day in and day out, then you are in for a surprise. I am here to teach you to become a lifelong learner- someone who has the tools to master the art of learning, manage their time well, and believe in themselves. We are partners: and if either one of us fails to do their part, then our partnership has failed. And I refuse for anyone of us to fail. I promise to never let you down, and in time you will appreciate how hard I push you because you will learn to truly believe in yourself. So please, don\u2019t let me down. I truly believe that if I set high expectations, student can and will follow.<\/p>\n<p><em>A wise teacher once said: \u201cHave you heard the saying \u2018No pain, no gain?\u2019 When you work out, pain is weakness leaving your body. Well, in this class, doing homework and studying is ignorance leaving your brain.\u2019<\/em><\/p>\n<p>CLASSROOM RULES:<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 <strong>Be respectful:<\/strong> Anything that may distract another student\u2019s ability to learn in our classroom will not be tolerated<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 <strong>NO electronic devices at any time:<\/strong> using it will cause you to lose participation points or referrals<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 <strong>Be honest<\/strong>: The purpose of anything we do in class is to measure how well YOU have understood the material. To use someone else\u2019s answers is unfair to you and the other person. You are putting the other person in a difficult position because both of you will receive a zero.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 ANY FORM OF CHEATING on any test, assignment, or homework earns the student a zero with NO chances of retakes\/make-ups<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 What constitutes cheating:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Copying homework [even if just a few questions]<\/li>\n<li>Whispering during a test<\/li>\n<li>Having a cheat sheet when not authorized to do so<\/li>\n<li>Erasing someone\u2019s name and turning it in as your own<\/li>\n<li>Taking pictures of any test, quiz, or assignment<\/li>\n<li>Plagiarizing: copying information without proper citation<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>v\u00a0 <strong>Be prepared:<\/strong> come to class with all necessary materials and ready to learn\u2026\u00a0 Have your homework ready to turn in AT THE DOOR unless specified elsewhere<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Be on time: I follow the school\u2019s tardy policy and if you get yourself on audit, prepare to face the consequences of earning 78% of higher on the cumulative exam to pass the class with full credits. Failure to do so will result in half credits, repeating the class, and falling behind on graduation.<\/p>\n<p>o\u00a0\u00a0 Leave non-classroom materials in your locker<\/p>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>HOMEWORK:<\/p>\n<p>I am that teacher that gives homework, sometimes a lot of it. I give homework because you need to constantly be reviewing the information we cover in class- otherwise you will forget it. None of the homework assignments I give are ridiculous to do, therefore I expect it to be done. You will be given detailed directions in class on how to do it, and then the directions will be posted on the blog.<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 HOMEWORK IS DUE WHEN YOU WALK IN UNLESS I SAY OTHERWISE!!!! NO LATE HOMEWORK WILL BE ACCEPTED<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 If you are unable to do a homework assignment, contact me the night before and tell me\u2026excuses cannot be given after! [i.e. fish ate my homework, my mom thought it was garbage, ran out of toilet paper, ran out of ink]<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 Projects and papers are due on the assigned date regardless of absence- failure to turn them in on time will result in an automatic zero.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>If you are absent:<\/strong> Because of the blog, you can know what is going on in the class even on the days you are not present.<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>On the day you come back from your absence, YOU MUST pick up all the work that you missed. All the work will be placed on the bulletin board- you need only to look in the folder of the day you were absent and pick up a copy of the assignment.<\/li>\n<li>Homework is due the NEXT day after your return.<\/li>\n<li>Failure to do so will result in a zero.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>TESTS:<\/p>\n<p>I take it personal when you miss a test, therefore I will reward you with a different test that will not necessarily be harder, but less easy [big difference]. So, my advice: don\u2019t be absent on test days. You really can\u2019t afford to miss days in my class- I cannot reteach the lesson and explanations I give but I can offer you the resources I used through the blog. You must get the notes from someone and study the test.<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 If you miss the review day [day before the test], you are still EXPECTED TO TAKE THE TEST! NO EXCUSES!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>QUIZZES:<\/p>\n<p>They are sometimes scheduled and sometimes given at random. They will usually be reading quizzes- so if I assign a reading as homework, expect a quiz on what you read the very next day so I know you did the assignment. This requires daily preparation so that you don\u2019t fall behind. Each question on the quiz will be worth one point.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>MAKE-UPS:<strong>\u00a0 <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>All quizzes\/tests that are missed must be made up in order for you to receive credit for them. \u00a0Must be made up on TUESDAYS AFTER SCHOOL.<\/p>\n<p>v\u00a0 Failure to show up on that make-up day [without notifying me] will result in a zero<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>RETAKES:<\/p>\n<p>Retakes are only permitted on tests and only one retake allowed per summative assignment. Retakes must be completed within 1.5 weeks of the original summative assessment and are held on make-up days. I reserve the right to make the retake test more challenging than the original tests. We will do a lot of practice for micro-arguments.<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>\u00a0<\/u><\/strong><\/td>\n<td width=\"234\">Each card marking you are expected to complete a participation sheet I pass out. It is due the last day of the card marking.<\/td>\n<td width=\"239\">\n<p>All of the work we do will be in it and by the end of the year, it will showcase all of you work and understanding of the class.
