Literacy unit: Start Smart-You are special<\/strong><\/p>\n

Reading:<\/strong>\u00a0We are reading these 3 stories: Jazz Baby, I hear Sounds with my Ears, Clever Turtle<\/p>\n

Strategy:<\/strong> Comprehension- Understanding what was read,<\/p>\n

Reading from left to right<\/p>\n

Sight words Review:<\/strong> I, can<\/p>\n

We have discussed 3 ways to read a book. Please review the ways with your child:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Read the pictures- We are working on this!<\/li>\n
  2. Read the words- They do not need to know how to do this yet, and that is o.k.-we are learning!<\/li>\n
  3. Retell the story-We are working on this!<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    We have been working on\u00a0Read to Self-<\/strong> a component of Daily 5. We created a chart of the expectation for their behavior. We are building a stamina chart.We have reached to 7\u00a0minutes. You may also send in your child’s favorite book, so they can add to their book box. This is an opportunity to enjoy reading independently.<\/p>\n

    Writing<\/strong>: We will start writing sentences starting with I can. We will talk about what a good sentence looks like. We will also be creating an All About Me Book.<\/p>\n

    Math:<\/strong>\u00a0 We will continue to explore how to sort, count and order numbers. We are building patterns with colors, exploring coins, and exploring different ways to measure.<\/p>\n

    Social Studies:<\/strong>\u00a0We will continue to discuss the importance of rules. We will also look at our surroundings and discuss what makes each place in our school unique.<\/p>\n

    Science:<\/strong>\u00a0 We will discuss the 5 senses. (sight, touch, hearing, taste, smell). We will explore the sense of touch this week. We will learn to describe how things feel ie. soft, rough, bumpy, smooth etc.<\/p>\n

    NOTES:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    There will be a few notes coming home from the office. Please complete and return as soon as possible.\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n

    Wednesday is Library check out day. Please make sure your child puts their book in their backpacks, so they<\/em> remember they have a library book to return and check out a new one!<\/strong><\/p>\n
