Hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving!!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>New Unit: Transportation<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Reading:<\/strong> A bus for Us; Ways to travel; Forms of transportation (video without speaking- just vehicles sounds); How a partridge built their canoes<\/p>\n<p><strong>Vocabulary:<\/strong> vehicle, transportation,<\/p>\n<p><strong>Strategies:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Identifying details in pictures to connect with text\n<ul>\n<li>examples: color of vehicle or objects in story, size etc.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Categorize ideas (sort ways of travel):\n<ul>\n<li>Air: plane, helicopter, jet, rocket<\/li>\n<li>Land: bus, taxi cab, car, train, van, truck, subway train, bike, motorcycle, tricycle, scooter, roller skates\/blades.<\/li>\n<li>Water: ship, sail boat, canoe, submarine, jet ski, tug boat, paddle boat<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Rhyming: recognize and produce rhymes.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Letters of the week:<\/strong> Qq, Rr (review all letters we have learned so far and their sounds)<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sight words of the week<\/strong>: ride, on, in<\/p>\n<p><strong>Writing:<\/strong> It is all about descriptive informational writing. It is all about the DETAIL. We will write about certain vehicles and then describe their colors and possible shapes found on the vehicles. \u00a0Sentence stem will be: I can see a _(shape)_ \u00a0on a \u00a0_(color)_ \u00a0_(type of vehicle)_. EX. I can see 4 circles on a green truck.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Math:<\/strong>\u00a0We are still practicing counting and writing numbers:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>by 1&#8217;s to 100<\/li>\n<li>by 10&#8217;s to 100<\/li>\n<li>by 5&#8217;s to 100<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>We are also using spinners to count and graph amounts. We will be comparing groups using the academic vocabulary: greater than, less than, equal to, fewer and more. We will be looking at numbers 0-20 in different modalities (or ways of seeing numbers) such as 12 can be 10 fingers and 2 toes; a double ten frame and 12 spots filled in;\u00a0 \u00a01 ten base block\u00a0 and 2 ones unit equals 12; 12 tally marks represents 12; a group of 12 dots on a mat represents the number 12; 10 + 2 = 12; 5 + 5 +2= 12 and so forth. We will also practice how to add with doubles. We will use a ten frame and unfix cubes to aide with this process.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>EXAMPLES: 2+2= 4; 4+4=8<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Also, we have been practicing a chant to help us remember putting the numbers in the correct order to avoid the reversals.<\/p>\n<p>Here is the chant:<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 1 \u00a0 make 11 fun<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 2 \u00a0 tell twelve what to do<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 3 \u00a0 send 13 up a tree<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 4 \u00a0 make 14 shut the door<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 5 \u00a0 keep 15 alive<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 6 \u00a0 make 16 pick up sticks<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 7 \u00a0 send 17 to heaven<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 an \u00a0 8 \u00a0 make 18 great<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 1 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 9 \u00a0 make 19 shine<\/p>\n<p>A \u00a0 2 \u00a0 and \u00a0 a \u00a0 0 \u00a0 make 20 the hero<\/p>\n<p><strong>Science:<\/strong>\u00a0We will continue to graph the weather for November and start\u00a0 December graph.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Social Studies:<\/strong> We will dive into what a need is again this week and compare it to a want.
