{"id":2436,"date":"2017-03-17T11:46:49","date_gmt":"2017-03-17T15:46:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/msmohamed\/?p=2436"},"modified":"2017-03-17T11:46:49","modified_gmt":"2017-03-17T15:46:49","slug":"week-of-march-20th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/msmohamed\/2017\/03\/17\/week-of-march-20th\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of March 20th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>New Unit: Plants<\/p>\n<p>Reading: We will be reading Oak Trees; Poem: Acorn; The Sticky Sticky Pine cone; The conceited apple tree. \u00a0These stories will guide us to through how plants grow and what they need to survive.<\/p>\n<p>Strategy focus: We will be sequencing and retelling using First, Next and Last.<\/p>\n<p>Spelling: down, little, we, cap, gap, nap, lap, tap, *flap<\/p>\n<p>Writing: We are continuing to write informational pieces this week. Our focus will be <strong>sequential<\/strong> writing. Last week we wrote an informational piece with the focus on<strong> description<\/strong>. This week we will focus on the transition words: first, next, then and last. We will start our writing just focusing on trees and then individually write about a plant choice. Be on the look out how trees will be written and talk about a plant (vegetable, fruit or flower) that your child would like to write about.<\/p>\n<p>Math: We will revisit geometry this week. We will discuss all things regarding geometric shapes. This includes:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>2-d, 3-d shapes naming them (square, cube etc.)<\/li>\n<li>count how many: faces, vertices, corners, sides, edges<\/li>\n<li>building bigger shapes using shapes you have (ie. 2 triangles can make a square)<\/li>\n<li>building shapes using play dough and toothpicks<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Math TEST THIS WEEK!!!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Science: We will be discussing what living and non-living means. Living things: breathe, sleep, eat, grow etc. Non-living things do not. The students will watch a movie, sort and listen to many stories that will aide them through this process.
