{"id":1630,"date":"2016-04-12T09:58:05","date_gmt":"2016-04-12T13:58:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/msmohamed\/?p=1630"},"modified":"2016-04-12T09:58:05","modified_gmt":"2016-04-12T13:58:05","slug":"week-of-april-11th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/msmohamed\/2016\/04\/12\/week-of-april-11th\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of April 11th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>READING-<\/strong><\/span>Our theme is\u00a0<em><strong>The Amazing Ocean. \u00a0<\/strong><\/em>We\u2019ll discuss what kind of animals live in the ocean, what kind of animal has fins, a shell, claws, tentacles\u2026<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">WRITING-<\/span>Descriptive Sentences\u00a0<\/strong> \u00a0Students will be writing about different fish and using descriptive words. \u00a0Students should be writing at least 3 sentences by now on a given topic.<\/p>\n<p>For example, \u201cWhales are huge animals that live in the ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Whales have gills.<\/p>\n<p>Whales have a blow hole.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If you have any books that you would like to share on this topic, please send them in with your child.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">SPELLING WORDS-<\/span> has \u00a0look \u00a0fish \u00a0pot \u00a0cot \u00a0hot \u00a0got\u00a0 plot \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>***Please note*** Kindergarten Spelling words will now be 8 practiced words (HOT WORDS) and 2 unknown words (COLD WORDS-from the word family of the week.) \u00a0As you can see, we will be working with the\u00a0<strong>\u201cot\u201d<\/strong> word family next week. \u00a0To get ready for the \u201cCOLD WORDS\u201d, use the \u201cot\u201d chunk and form new words. \u00a0Have your student spell the words. \u00a0This will help solidify the word chunk family for the week.<\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">LETTERS-<\/span>X \u00a0x \u00a0V \u00a0v<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">MATH-<\/span><\/strong> We will review time to the nearest hour. We review function machine. We will practice adding and subtracting through a number talk model. Each child will receive a double ten frame and build numbers presented and will add and subtract within teen numbers. Students will also talk about the $1 bill and how 4 quarters equals one dollar.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><strong>SCIENCE\/SOCIAL STUDIES-<\/strong><\/span>We will continue with our Plant Observations and recording our findings. \u00a0We are Scientists!<\/p>\n<p>We also will begin discussing Earth Day. \u00a0We will discuss ways to save the earth.
