Who\u00a0hibernates?\u00a0 Why do they\u00a0hibernate? \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0We\u2019ll be reading a story about a bear who hibernates and we\u2019ll read\u00a0The Mitten. \u00a0On Friday we will compare and contrast the two texts.<\/p>\n<p><strong>WRITING:<\/strong>\u00a0In celebration of March is reading Month, we will create our first book report. We will analyze a story and pull out the elements that define a story. Sentence stems will be:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>The characters of the story __(title)___ by __(author)___ are _____.<\/li>\n<li>The setting of the story __(title)__ by __(author)__ is the __.<\/li>\n<li>The problem of the story was____.<\/li>\n<li>The solution of the story was____.<\/li>\n<li>My favorite part of this story was____.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>WORDS:<\/strong>Review Week \u00a0\u00a0<strong>and \u00a0what \u00a0this \u00a0do \u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>LETTERS:\u00a0<\/strong>Review week \u00a0<strong>B b \u00a0 \u00a0L l \u00a0 E e \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0<\/strong>Practice the \u201cb\u201d \u00a0 (not \u201cd\u201d)<\/p>\n<p><strong>SPELLING WORDS:\u00a0<\/strong>We will work with the \u201c<strong>et\u201d\u00a0<\/strong>word family<\/p>\n<p>Here are next week\u2019s words: \u00a0 \u00a0<strong>said \u00a0 little \u00a0 pet \u00a0get \u00a0set \u00a0net \u00a0fret \u00a0 hibernate<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>MATH: <\/strong>We will be<strong>\u00a0<\/strong>graphing colored gold fish and\u00a0exploring the quarter (25 cents). \u00a0Have your child count your change-pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. Remind them to start with the largest coin first and then add on the rest. \u00a0For example, when adding up pennies, nickels, and dimes, start with the dimes (\u201cten, twenty, thirty\u201d \u00a0and then add on the nickels \u201cfive, ten, fifteen\u201d and then add on the pennies \u201c) Practice! \u00a0Practice! \u00a0Practice! \u00a0 Count Daddy\u2019s money, \u00a0Mom\u2019s money, \u00a0Grandma\u2019s money.<\/p>\n<p>We will also building 2-d and 3-d models using marshmallows and toothpicks.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SCIENCE: \u00a0<\/strong>We will\u00a0differentiate\u00a0between living and non-living things. Remember living things eat, breathe and grow. For example: plants, animals and people. Non-living things do not eat, grow, or breathe. For example: rocks, toys and refrigerator.<\/p>\n<p><strong>SOCIAL STUDIES<\/strong>: We will review maps and globes. We will practice using the compass rose to move around on a map. Please review North, South, East and West with your child.Also review the importance of a map key. ]<\/p>\n<p><strong>REMINDERS:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>SPIRIT WEEK starts today. Please refer to flyer posted last week.<\/li>\n<li>Book fair preview Tuesday, March 1st<\/li>\n<li>Homework coming home this week-due Friday<\/li>\n<li>Reading ticket for minutes also due this Friday.
