We are half way through the year already! Can you believe it????<\/p>\n<p><strong>Literacy Unit:\u00a0NEIGHBORHOOD<\/strong>. \u00a0This week\u2019s theme is\u00a0<em>People and Places.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Reading:<\/strong><\/em> We\u2019ll read a story called\u00a0<strong>Bus Stops, The Park, Ms. Mouse needs a friend, Acrefoot the Barefoot Mailman.\u00a0<\/strong>We will continue to discuss community places and people. Remember a community is a place where we live, grow, learn and play.<\/p>\n<p><em>C.A.F.E. Strategies:\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Comprehension:\u00a0STRATEGY-Summarize,\u00a0SKILL-Identify Main Idea and Details<\/li>\n<li>Fluency: WORDS-\u00a0<strong>For \u00a0for \u00a0 You \u00a0you,\u00a0<\/strong>LETTER-\u00a0<strong>D \u00a0d<\/strong><\/li>\n<li>Accuracy\/Expanding Vocabulary: WRITING-Directions \u00a0 \u00a0First, Next, Last. \u00a0We\u2019ll make a book about\u00a0<strong>First, \u00a0Next, \u00a0Last.<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><em>Spelling Words:<\/em>\u00a0mat \u00a0 \u00a0hat \u00a0 flat \u00a0\u00a0the \u00a0you \u00a0I\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>I will choose some words from a word family (this week is the \u201cat\u201d family), one word will have a blend at the beginning (\u201cflat\u201d), and the remaining words will be sight words (words that they should know by heart).<\/p>\n<p><em>Word Family:<\/em> -at (flat, cat, mat, hat, rat, sat, that, bat)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>MATH-<\/strong><\/em>We will continue to work on \u201ctens and ones.\u201d We will revisit the penny and its value. We will explore the nickel and its value. We will practice exchanging with the nickel and pennies. We will make a survey and graph it. We will also revisit shapes.<\/p>\n<p>For example, \u201c16 \u00a0is _?__tens and ___?__ones. \u00a0 16 is \u00a0<strong>1 \u00a0<\/strong>10 \u00a0and\u00a0<strong>6\u00a0<\/strong>ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201c10 is\u00a0<strong>1\u00a0<\/strong>10 and\u00a0<strong>0\u00a0<\/strong>ones.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>SOCIAL STUDIES-<\/strong><\/em>Map making! \u00a0Last week we made a map of our neighborhoods. \u00a0This week we will add to it land forms. We will continue to review a compass rose and how to read a map.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>SCIENCE-<\/strong><\/em>We will work with\u00a0<em>PHYSICAL SCIENCE.<\/em> \u00a0We\u2019ll start with\u00a0<em>Landforms (mountains and rivers, plains, and oceans). <\/em>We will explore these areas and record them in our science journals.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>REMINDERS:\u00a0<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>JANUARY \u00a0CALENDARS are due today.<\/li>\n<li><del><\/del>Second Semester will bring\u00a0<em>WEEKLY SPELLING TESTS.<\/em> \u00a0I will post the words each week and the tests will be on Fridays. \u00a0Our first\u00a0<em>Spelling Test\u00a0<\/em>will be\u00a0<strong>February 5, 2016. \u00a0<\/strong>Of course, we will begin with an easy start. \u00a0 To give the students a chance to practice the words, you can go to\u00a0<strong>SpellingCity.com\u00a0<\/strong>and type in the words on\u00a0my list.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>As of today, we started 2nd semester and card marking 3!
