{"id":1403,"date":"2016-01-25T14:22:05","date_gmt":"2016-01-25T19:22:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/msmohamed\/?p=1403"},"modified":"2016-01-25T14:22:05","modified_gmt":"2016-01-25T19:22:05","slug":"week-of-january-25th","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/msmohamed\/2016\/01\/25\/week-of-january-25th\/","title":{"rendered":"Week of January 25th"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are finishing our endangered animal posters&#8230;..<\/p>\n<p>We will begin Unit 6\u00a0<strong>NEIGHBORHOOD.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>READING-We will read about who is a neighbor, what jobs do some of our neighbors do, and what are some special places in our neighborhood.<\/p>\n<p>COMPREHENSION STRATEGY-Summarizing<\/p>\n<p>COMPREHENSION SKILL-Identifying Main idea and Details<\/p>\n<p>WRITING-Opinion Writing \u00a0 \u00a0You can work with this at home\u2026Ask your child what is their favorite\u00a0<em>pet, color, book, season, number, place to visit, thing to do on the weekend, vacation\u2026 \u00a0<\/em>Then (here comes the important part) ask them\u00a0<strong>\u201cWhy\u00a0<\/strong>is that your favorite\u00a0<em>pet, color, book, season, number, place to visit\u2026 \u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n<p>WORD-\u201c<strong>Are \u00a0are\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>LETTER-<strong>\u201cH \u00a0h\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>SOCIAL STUDIES-<strong>Maps \u00a0<\/strong>We will be using maps to explore locations near and far. \u00a0This will go along with our Reading Unit of\u00a0<strong>NEIGHBORHOODS. \u00a0<\/strong>We\u2019ll use a globe, a World map, a Michigan map, use Google Maps, and maybe we\u2019ll make a\u00a0<em>treasure map!\u00a0<\/em>\u00a0I\u2019ll show them a Compass Rose. \u00a0I\u2019ll give them directions to find an object in the room or school. \u00a0ie \u201cFacing North, take 8 steps North, 7 steps east, 15 steps north, etc. \u00a0Who knows where they\u2019ll end up?? <img decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-smiley\" src=\"https:\/\/iblog.dearbornschools.org\/smiths\/wp-includes\/images\/smilies\/simple-smile.png\" alt=\":)\" \/><\/p>\n<p>MATH-We\u2019ll use the ones units and ten rods to make numbers. \u00a0Then we\u2019ll read them.<\/p>\n<p>A few reminders\u2026<\/p>\n<p>Reminders:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Half day Friday, January 29th. No lunch will be served. Dismissal at 11:45<\/li>\n<li>Friday are library days. Please make sure your child has their library book.<\/li>\n<li>The district is sponsoring a bottled water drive to help the families in Flint. We will be collecting bottles all next week.\u00a0While we will accept individual bottles of water, it would be helpful if people donated packages.<\/li>\n<li>Our class is need of glue sticks, please donate if you can.<\/li>\n<li>Pizza kits are due today.<\/li>\n<li>Next week:\u00a0Kindergarten begins weekly SPELLING TESTS.
